As things start to rev up after the holiday lull, we can’t help but think about that annual trek to Austin for indie rock spring break — and begin trolling for confirmations for the music festival’s slate of performers. Best we’ve got so far is a list of “Music Festival Highlights” that the SXSW folks have made available in their January update (pdf via P4K). Here’s the “subject to change” list of “highlights”:
The Stooges
Interpol
Lily Allen
Bloc Party
Devin The Dude
Hoodoo Gurus
Matt & Kim
Ghostland Observatory
The Watson Twins
Stax 50th Anniversary Soul Review
Ozomatli
Turbanegro
Cold War Kids
And Pitchfork reports that Under Byen is confirmed as well, which makes 14 down, 1400 to go! So which one of you in-the-know scenesters can help fill in our unofficial list of rampant speculation? Got a wish list? Or does SXSW leave you feeling like it’s just a big industry circle jerk with bands you’ve already seen (and really, who can subsist on BBQ and margs three meals a day for five days)?

Youtube Underground Winners for Best Live Video, the Pawnshop Roses could be added. Ok, I’m just hopelessly optimistic…
I think you mean Turbonegro, not Turbanegro. Just sayin’.
stooges and interpol…hmmmmm….

“WinterKids are playing according to their tourdates”
I was just going to say that.
Two great bands that I know will be there Wax Fang and Pela. If you guys don’t know wax fang yet…you will after Austin
Umm…shouldn’t Stax 50th Anniversary Soul Review be #1 on that list!?!
i believe “rebuilding the rights of statues”, from beijing, china, have been confirmed to play. they’re on tagteam records (tagteamrecords.com, i think?) – fucking amazing! sounds a bit like frog eyes…
there’s word that Mary Weiss of the Shangri-las will be promoting her new album there. She’s warming up in Cleveland, which makes me happy
I’m sure the Walkmen will be all over the place.
