Get ready for the first authorized film covering the fascinating story of the grunge icon. But be patient; Courtney Love’s at the helm. Access Hollywood reports (via Whitney):

Love has acquired the rights to Heavier Than Heaven, author Charles Cross’ biography on the late grunge singer, a source close to the star told Access. According to our source, several studios are in discussions with Love to bring the book to the big screen.

The rocker also confirmed the project is “in an embryonic stage,” with a post on a Courtney Love fansite MoonwashedRose.com. “[It] has no script and no director attached, let alone stars,” she added.

Cool Court, you take care of those 1200 resolutions, we’ll handle the casting for ya. Whom do yo guys see fit to portray the life and hurt of Kurt? And since Cobain and Pat Smear go together like peanut butter and heroin, thought we’d ask about the upcoming Germs biopic What We Do Is Secret (via NME):

Former Nirvana and Foo Fighters guitarist Pat Smear is to act as musical director of new film which tells the story of his former band and US punk legends The Germs.

The Germs were a massive influence the likes of Green Day and the movie focuses on the life of singer Darby Crash.

According to the film’s MySpace page, the movie, to be called ‘What We Do Is Secret’, will show “the birth of punk rock in Hollywood and the rise of hardcore”.

So while we have you guys making casting calls, what do you think about Once And Again and ER star Shane West playing Darby Crash in the Germs biopic? We’re not suggesting, we’re reporting! Got someone better in mind? We hope so. Also, you Mastodon-hating fans of The Bronx will be psyched to know they’re in the flick as Black Flag. Double-hardcore score.

Ewan Mcgregor in Velvet Goldmine looked just like an In Utero era Kurt in a lot of scenes.

  3. What about Creep era Thom York? Get it? They should get Scott Wieland to play Eddie Veddar. Or what about the guy from Spacehog?

There are courtney love fan sites?

  5. Only one man has what it takes toi capture the tortured genius of Kurt Cobain: JARED LETO.

    Sincerely,
    Jared Leto

  6. Lindsey Lohan as Courtney. She’s already got the train wreck part down.

    tobey macguire?
    elijah wood?
    macaulay culkin?

Michael Pitt is obviously the best choice to play Kurt. If only he hadn’t done it already…

For comic relief, I suggest Chris Parnell as Krist and Andy Samberg as Dave.

Courtney will obviously cast herself as herself. I smell Oscar!!

  9. ian  |   Posted on Jan 12th, 2007 0

michael pitt kind of played kurt already in last days.

the hardest to one to cast will be krist novoselic, since he’s 6’7”, and considering it might be hard to be find someone who’s 5’7” like kurt, we’re going to need a really tall actor ro play him.

you know you all watch “degrassi: the next generation” at 2am from time to time. jamie johnston is a dead ringer for a young kurt cobain: http://imdb.com/name/nm1329780/

  11. The Bronx as Black Flag = Blasphemy

  12. I’m going to say Cobain has to be played by an unknown. Anyone who is a star that comes onboard will bring too much of their own limelight to the role and will never be able to pass themselves off.

That said, if it has to be a star, put a blonde wig and sunglasses on Tobey MacGuire and tell me who you see.

Unless I’m wrong, which has never happened before, the Germs movie has been done for awhile.

  17. rt  |   Posted on Jan 12th, 2007 0

He might be getting too old but Billy Crudup….he’s about the same hight & stature… I saw him in that movie about the runner Prefontaine & he reminded me of Kurt…

  18. Kate  |   Posted on Jan 12th, 2007 0

That was Jared Leto in Prefontaine.

  19. Mike P  |   Posted on Jan 12th, 2007 0

i’m sure people will scoff but Heath Ledger could pull it off i think

  20. fletcher  |   Posted on Jan 12th, 2007 0

“The rocker also confirmed the project is “in an embryonic stage,”

would he go so far as to say the project is…in utero?

  21. I always though Kurt kind of had the classically good-looks of Brad Pitt, as ridiculous as that sounds – and he did a lot to try to hide that. I think it was that solid jawbone – and the eyes…

In any case, Pitt’s far too old – I second the Billy Crudup, or even Heath Ledger suggestions, though they’re also both too old. They’re gonna have to find some scrawny young guy with good features and a certain gravitas to pull it off. We fans expect a good “impression” – I’m talking Jamie Foxx-Ray Charles/Joaquin Phoenix-Johnny Cash caliber transformations… Good luck.

  22. Eric  |   Posted on Jan 12th, 2007 0

Kate – There were two Prefontaine movies that came out within months of each other. Crudup was in “Without Limits”, which was hands-down the better of the two.

  23. Kate… although you are right about Jared Leto playing Prefontaine in “Prefontaine”, Billy Crudup played Pre in “Without Limits”.

you know, even though i think this was a back-handed callout in regards to me hating on mastodon and loving the bronx, i’m cool with it. i’m actually stoked to see them in the flick. props to the guy who called out that the bronx opened for mastodon and that he showed up late. ultimate dick move on your part to skip the opening acts. i actually skipped the tour entirely, deciding to wait for the bronx headline show when they backtracked to LA from the east coast. also nice was the warped tour comment. i’m not legitimizing the fall of troy as being incendiary, i’m just saying they’re better at guitar than mastodon. anyway, i’m done with it.

  25. english isn’t my first language.

  26. Wow, that Degrassi kid really does look like Cobain. But not as much as Don Cheadle.

  27. Raz  |   Posted on Jan 12th, 2007 0

Go up to the top of the page & stare at Kurt’s face for like 30 seconds. In fact focus on his nose & mouth & chin.

    Who do you see?

    That’s right.
    Jimmy Fallon.

    I’m a frickin genius. You’re Welcome.

  28. WHY DID COURTNEY PAY TO BUY THE RIGHTS TO HER AND HER HUSBANDS’ LIVES?

SHE LIVED THROUGH IT, FERCRISSAKES, WHY SHE HAVE TO BUY IT BACK???

    SHE A BIT THICK?

(jordan catalano is an anagram of kurt cobain, btw)

  35. levi  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2007 0

im an unknown ,but i look just like him know everything about his guitars and whatever else needs to be known. i also dont need a script to get into his shoes i live them everyday. and i hope courtney reads this which she proably wont. but anyway. if you need proof i look like him just send me an e-mail xfarfromrunningx@yahoo.com and onemore thing “im my own spokesman”

  36. First of all, this should be an art film, and not some ~”Squeeze every dollar from the dead guy we can”~ movie. Someone like Oliver Stone would be the perfect Director for a project like this. This film could be like ?The Doors? meets ?Sid & Nancy.” But odds are it won’t be. I’d go and see the movie anyways just to see how much stuff they lie about. This film definately needs to focus more away from Kurt & Courtney and more on Kurt. But with Courtney Love at the helm Kurt will probably be made out to be a piece of sh*t, and Courtney portrayed as an angel. But here’s who I think should play the parts…
    1. Kurt Cobain– `Edward Furlong.`
He’s the right age, has the right type of body and imagine him with long bleached long hair and a five O’clock shadow.
    2. Dave Grohl– `Scott Patrick Green.`
Scott is an actor who played a part in Gus Van Saunts Last Days. He played one of Blakes rocker friends and has the right look and attitude for the part.
    3. Courtney Love– ‘Brittney Murphy.`
I am convinced that she would be the absolute PERFECT person for this part, esspecially after seeing her in 8 mile.
    4. Krist Novaselic– `Ashton Kutcher.`
If you think about it, Ashton could really pull off the krist novoselic role rather well. I believe he would be great for this part and this would further highlight his talents as an actor.
This film has the potential to be a really great film but it’s all up to whoevers making it. The filmakers should have people from various grunge/punk bands like The Melvins, RHCP, and the Breeders as consultants to ensure that the film keeps its genuine devotion. And I believe the ending should be open to question because there is alot of controversy surrounding Kurt Cobains death. To read about it Go to:www.justiceforkurt.com

  37. Alex  |   Posted on Oct 21st, 2007 0

FUCK all the big name actors. They NEED to cast a real musician to pull off Kurt for this role. His performances and playing style are too crucial to the role and can’t be bullshitted by some Hollywood hot shot.
and above all…Kurt would’ve wanted it that way! :)

    one suggestion:
Drew M. (singer from LA indie band Wintergreen)
check out the resemblance in this video:
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=jX0zWvYWBaI
He’d be WAY more authentic as Kurt rather than Ewan(or Leto) dressed up in an old cardigan, ripped jeans, and cons.

I think taht Elija Wood would be perfect for the role of Kurt Cobain, not to mention he is the perfect age and at the top of his game. Did I mention he holds a startling resemblence to him as well?

  44. Zene  |   Posted on Mar 2nd, 2009 0

Top choice to play Cobain is Ewan McGregor and/or Tobey Maguire.
The tall guy from “Friends” tv show could play Novoselic.
