what exactly do the amazon editors edit?
ahm lists without beach house or sleigh bells on it.
well Sleigh Bells is extremely reparative and tedious so I can see why they’re not on the list. But I’m with you as far as Beach House goes.
Good to see Miles Kurosky get some love though
are amazon too good for Beach House?
Lists are stupid and blah blah blah, but seriously, David Cross at #22? Come on now Amazon. Even his best work doesn’t belong on this list.
Again with the no Titus Andronicus? What the hell? Also notable, the lack of Spoon, New Pornographers, and Black Keys. You’d think at least one would have been there.
I like the Avi Buffalo record, but I certainly wouldn’t have it that high, or even close. Though I’m glad to see some recognition for Miles Kurosky. I think that’s a really good record.
You pretty much said it all. Any list without Titus should be burned.
This is a bad list. You made a bad list, Amazon.
Also agreed, The Monitor was my favorite album of the year so far and certainly at least top-10 material!
I absolutely love a decent chunk of Avi Buffalo’s album (Summer Cum, Jessica, What’s In It For), but as a whole, it’s not even close in quality to High Violet by The National or Beach Fossils’ album in my opinion
Titus destroys all of this.
Still at #1.
Who are these people?
If this is the best of the year I wanna be dead or cryogenically frozen this year.
Hmmm. Stone Temple Pilots…

Little Boots > Janelle Monae?
…Gorilaz > The National?
…Surfer Blood > Erykah Badu?
…Goldfrapp > Gil Scott Heron?!!
FAIL.
I agree about the Titus Andronicus/Beach House/Black Keys snubs, but that Tallest Man On Earth is omitted is a goddamn TRAGEDY!
There must be some glitch here, as I do not see Beach House or Local Natives anywhere on this list. Be more careful when copy+pasting, Stereogum!
Only 12 albums off of this list I like, and only 4 will be in my year-end. Too low for my approval :p.
Janelle Monae should be far further up the top of list. Seriously.
seriously, shut the fuck up with the hold steady slams
WTF is this list based on? BSS must be in the top ten, at least.
No Los Campesinos!, no Shout Out Louds…no likey listy.
Again. List are silly.
The exclusion of Beach House immediately renders this list ridiculous, as does the top ten inclusion of The Dead Weather and Little Boots.
Surprisingly bad, even for Amazon.com editors.
your inclusion of little boots renders you irrelevant…surprisingly bad
I’m not even going to bother listing the shameful exclusions. This list sucks. And another thing: does everybody but me hate the new Hot Chip album? Maybe you have to see the new songs played live, but I think its pretty amazing.
Come on…. no Flying Lotus?

Rather than bellyache about what’s missing, I’m going to use it as I suspect it was intended and just check out the things that I’m not already familiar with and perhaps give another chance to a few of the records I’d already dismissed. Getting pissed off because someone doesn’t have the same opinion as you about a certain record is kind of a waste of time and energy don’t ya think? Getting evangelical about a record you wish had been mentioned is however totally appropriate and I’m hoping someone here mentions something that I haven’t heard of before.
I for one can’t stop listening to that Tame Impala record this week for what its worth.
Less indie list than NPR, which I can respect, but I likemore albums on the NPR list.
Amazon’s top 50 SONGS, on the other hand, is a much better list than this. It’s got Yeasayer, Mumford + Sons, Hot Chip, The National, Best Coast…
Maybe I’m just dumb but does their song list not have a number 1?
As said before, where the fuck is Titus? And lol @ The National behind VV Brown and Little Boots. High Violet deserves to be in the top 5. At least. Amazon, stop. #justsaying
Joanna Newsom? Beach House? Spoon? grrrrrrrrrrr
Laura Veirs.
Beach House.
C’mon now.
Another one without The Morning Benders booooo.
lol is amazon.com more hipster than p4k??? I think so, cause I don’t even think they’d have the balls to put out such a young, but pretty brilliant buzz band’s debut at #2!

LOL Best Coast #9
+1 for sir lucious left foot
yes, sleigh bells and fang island!! how about local natives? the new LCD is definitely number one so far on my list though, they got that one right
this is such an awful list!
What an awful list… you hipsters listent to shitty obscure list of bands no one heard of and make list to brag to each other.. pathetic.
You have to be trolling.
why is joanna newsom’s have one on me often snubbed in this mid-year list?
is it cause it is less hipster and more substance?
most likely bc it isn’t that good.
horse shit! I’m totally with you, awindofsuchviolence. I know better than to read these things … they always seem like a fun idea, but inevitably leave me feeling like “goddamn, LCD Soundsystem? again? I just don’t get all the fuss, critics.” Though I guess most people might say the same of Joanna Newsom. Oh well.
You guys want to see what a decent mid-year list looks like?
Check it out: http://bit.ly/bboDFv (And it’s not the one I personally made on a previous post)
This is a boring hipster list. What the hell is with the ongoing popularity of bands that are boring as shit. What is the point of grizzly bear, beach house and the xx? other than putting me to sleep.
What is the point to any music? It sounds good, people like it. If you don’t, then don’t listen to it.
i hear ya, all i keep hearing about is beach house, grizzley bea, the xx, dirty projectors animal collective, and titus androfuckus or whatever. i love music just as much as anybody else but as soon as any of these bands start appearing in commercials or in thtop 10 in itunes…guess what? trendy beardo guy who rides a 10 speed to work “because it’s good for the enviromnent but really i’m too cheap to buy a car” is going to hate it and go on and to tell everyone how cool he is because he found a great band no one has heard of. it’s recprical….sorry i needed to vent.
btw i actually like beach house
Only complaint I can make that hasn’t been made yet is the absence of Tomorrow in a Year. That album blew my mind.
06 Little Boots – Hands this album is over 1 year old!!!
why is lcd always number 1?
fuck that guy. I heard drunk girls, thought it sucked. “ohhh its just music, lets psycho analysis it; who cares if you don’t like it; lists are stupid anyway”
Yes, lists are stupid. my opinion > your meaningless lists
needs more future islands, suckers, twin sister, holy fuck, lemonade, dr. dog, and tobacco. and phantogram should be bumped up at least 25 spots. ok, fixed it! you’re welcome, amazon.
No “Contra,” Amazon? Hmmm…
No Contra, Congratulations, Brothers, Forgiveness Rock Record, Teen Dream, Sisterworld, There Is love In You, or Cosmogramma… wtf?
oh snap, i failed to notice the lack of cosmogramma. definitely needs more of that, too.
Absolutely no Grizzly Bear on that list? C’mon, man that’s an awesome album!!!
So glad to see some Surfer Blood on that list, though. :)
the only good thing about this list that makes it stand out compared to any other list is that jj no.3 finally gets some well-deserved love. the rest is lacking and sub-par at best.
high violet at #14 and avi buffalo at #2, are they kidding?
and seriously, how could they skip local natives and beach house?
No Contra really makes me not care about anything else on this list…
