Welcome To The Jungle did NOT deserve that spot. If anything by G’NR it should have been November Rain/Paradise City. Heck, I’d say put Civil War, but it’s not a very mainstream G’NR song. Where is MODERN PUNK on this list? Since it’s not hard rock, really, I agree, they should at least put some of it on there… Social Distortion? Rancid? >>>RISE AGAINST<<<?!? And, to anyone who says Megadeth rocks, please, go listen to newer Megadeth instead. And the idiocy of the MTV interns and non-music loving execs running the show are obvious… how is Free Bird on here *(as good a song as it is- it is not hard rock) and Creed, Journey, and Warrant- come on guys. and how is Kansas “Wayward Son” all the way at the bottom and how did the Clash make it and not Rush’s “Finding My Way” or at the least Led Zepplin’s “Black Dog”? I don’t think they meant “hard rock” I think they meant “most popular” songs. And I guess in Vh1′s mind, hard rock is stuff like Warrant, Guns N’ Roses, Anthrax, and Kid Rock. I don’t agree, but Vh1 didn’t compile the list, people voted, and in America’s opinion, Twisted Sister is great rock n’ roll. I was extremely surprised that classics like The Rolling Stones weren’t on here, and Zeppelin was forgotten many times. But WE, the commenters didn’t make this list, Vh1 did.
Also, if you RECALL, Vh1 loves Guns n’ Roses (as do I, but I don’t think they deserve the title of “greatest rock band”) on 100 greatest songs of the 90′s, they were on the list twice, at Sweet Child O’ Mine (great song, though) was about number four. “Livin On A Prayer” was #1, if that hints at anything.
Anyway, I like these shows on Vh1 admittedly. I like seeing the older music videos, and hearing other artist’s commentary on the music (although it’s usually artists like The Donnas and Sebastian Bach… not A listers of rock).
Not bad list, in my opinion should have put these two songs over one hundred other AC / DC are my classic rock, is a “Highway to hell”, the most famous song of the band and another is the “Hells Bells”.
And as for Metallica, remove “Enter Sandman” and would be “Fade to black.”

I thought the VH1 selection was decent to pretty good. If someone finds a list that can please everyone, let me know. I’d like to see that list! I remember wincing about 8 times during the VH1 countdown and wondering why bands like Boston, Foghat and Pat Benatar were on the list. I like them, but “hard rock” seems like a stretch. I remember thinking “Ace of Spades” is the hardest of the top 10, though the list is obviously skewed by popularity, so whatcha gonna do.

An OK list in general…obviously there are some songs that don’t belong at all and others that couldn’t belong more. That being said, I think an honorable mention would be “Super Stupid” by Funkadelic (I know, a band with the word funk in the name on a hard rock list lol). Blast that song and see if you have any ears left, with Eddie Hazel showin how its done with a guitar.
OK guys. Let’s all cool off and realize this is VH1 and not Joe Smith’s uber mix tape. The songs have to be fairly popular and probably have to be actually in VH1′s catalog to be considered. It’s not a bad list, period. They got the gist of it right. Of course everyone will have an opinion about their favorites and why their songs aren’t on there or how that VH1 put this POS on there. What it comes down to is it has to be user friendly and MOST people have to find it somewhat interesting to stay tuned. Come on, they have Brett Michaels as the host. For example (and please don’t criticize as I’m merely making a theoretical point here), yes Metallica fans probably think many Metallica songs are harder/better than Enter Sandman (e.g. Battery or Fade to Black), but Angus McCasualViewer will probably remember Enter Sandman and not the others.
So, take it for what it’s worth: a good list fairly representative of POPULAR hard rock songs that won’t please everyone, but will please most (>50%) people that like music, in general, fairly well.

I felt like they pick the most popular songs from when they (and I) were growing up. “More Than a Feeling” is probably the least rock Boston song ever. They also seemed to pick the songs their dad’s listened to in his garage 8-track player. Hard Rock doesn’t need to be popular on Top 40 stations to be good.

While I do like a lot of the songs on this list, the one question that keeps coming to mind is, when did classic rock become labled as hard rock? Does anyone really think of journey as a hard rock band, and dont even get me started on winger please. How does acdc only have 2 songs and one of them not hells bells? Maybe vh1 will do a heavey metal countdown and some of our favorites like, pantera,slipknot,and the real metallica and megadeth that io grew up listening 2, Sorry but a lot of these bands have been labled classic rock for so long that you cant put them in the class of hard rock now. Billy Squire hard rock?? If you watched this countdown and seen that fag dancing in his video no hard rock band ever, would be caught like that(except freddy mercuary). Understand this, I am a HUGE Metallica fan, but no hard rock band truly exists without some kind of LZ inspiration. You can see it as a kind of torch passing. If the Beatles were the foundation of rock, LZ is the founder of Hard rock.

Hello!, i would take out almost the 60% of the list because for i think there are a lot of songs that are not Hard Rock neither Heavy Metal. Some people is in a mistake when they think that all the music with guitars and distorsion is Rockl – they are simply worng. It´s evident that almost all the bands are from the USA, so i think it can explain EVERYTHING!!!
Well, i just considere this list INCOMPLETE: Where are Saxon, Helloween, Running Wild, Accept, Loudness?… what can we understand of that?

Someday early Roth-era Van Halen (1974-84) will get it’s due with a proper box set and live collections. That said, I’d replace “Runnin’ with the Devil” with “Ain’t Talikin’ ‘Bout Love” and “Hot For Teacher” with “Unchained.”
And damn, leaving VH’s “Mean Street” off a greatest hard rock song list is like omitting The Cure’s Disintegration from a top 100 album list for psychologically damaged art school students.
