Stooges founding member/guitarist Ron Asheton was found dead at his Ann Arbor home this morning. There’s no official cause of death yet, but Rolling Stone — who rightfully listed him as one of the 100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time — reports that it looks like he had a heart attack. He was 60. That’s a very sad story to start the year, the man who made the awesome guitar playing in those great records.

Awww… and I just discovered the magical Raw Power album a few days.

  4. It is difficult to overstate how influential Ron Asheton’s guitar has been on every punk and hard rock band to come along since 1969. Most of those bands don’t even realize it.
    R.I.P.

Well put. His influence was definitely major. At least he died at home in Michigan.
