Courtesy of ateaseweb.com, we have some acceptable footage of Mr. Selway fingerpicking his way through a droning little acoustic number from a live performance in New Zealand last night. The YouTube label has 7 Worlds Collide affixed, which is the title of a 2001 album culled from various performances spearheaded by Crowded House’s Neil Finn and including Johnny Marr, Eddie Vedder, Ed O’Brien, and others. As previously reported, the global all-star troupe are reprising the project, with notable addition Jeff Tweedy, via a new LP and a series of shows that took place in Auckland this week. We’ll assume this is Phil’s contribution:

The new 7 Worlds Collide LP is due this year and will benefit Oxfam. More details here. According to atease, Jeff Tweedy covered “Fake Plastic Trees” at one of these shows so obviously that will be posted ASAP.

wow, NEVER thought id EVER see phil selway do anything than play simple drums for the greatest band that has ever graced this world. pretty interesting.

  8. Here’s a clip with way rough sound of Tweedy singing part of “Fake Plastic Trees”. Hopefully one with better sound will surface soon.

  9. He’s recording/recorded a solo album with John McCusker producing.

Being a fan of the contemporary folk scene, I find this exciting.

  10. it’s always funny seeing someone sing for the first time after seeing them NOT sing for over 10 years. And although the quality of that recording is shit, he sounds pretty good, i was totally afraid he’d have a horrific frog voice or sound WAY hight like Bernard Butler or something haha. (if i were him, i woulda made a joke about ‘THOMmmm would never let me sing this…he’s a JERK!’) haha

  11. which proves my theory: phil selway is my hero
