The Followill clan have been cast off as fashion rock phonies, particularly after a slot opening for Julian, Fab, and the guys gave writers the easy and wildly inaccurate “Southern Strokes” tag. Aha Shake Heartbreak should have answered more questions about the band’s integrity and direction than it did, and despite ever-growing popularity, Caleb, his brothers, and cousin are after your hearts, music snobs. We last saw ‘em at ACL, where the band played one of the fest’s best sets and previewed songs from their April-released, third LP Because Of The Times. Really great shit. They told NME:

These songs are so much bigger — this band is so much better. There was a growth that people thought they heard on Aha Shake Heartbreak from Youth & Young Manhood, but there’s no comparison this time out. I think it’s pretty evident when people hear it.

Caleb quote aside, it wouldn’t be tough to imagine “On Call” sitting alongside “Pistole Of Fire” and “The Bucket” as a sort of slow-driving, booze-soaked rocker — and it’s not the revelation Caleb seems to promise — but if you’ve liked the Kings, you’ll love it. Hear it at MySpace.

this band is criminally underrated in the u.s. saw them live this fall and the new album tracks are great. love the kings.

  2. You don’t just HEAR a difference in On Call, you feel it. KOL grew up. Now they sound more confident, strong and just…better.

why are the critics so hard on this band, these guys play great rock and they don’t mess around. Bands like Jet only wish they could produce a sound like Kings.

Counting down the days till their latest album is released, KOL have given rock a dirty rocking bluegrass kick in the arse. They have done something different and are now in the position to add new elements to their style. Can’t get enough of them!By the way, they also look hot in tight jeans, but they aren’t half as cool as my man , he proposed to me last year while we were rocking out to Four Kicks at Big Day Out!!!!!

Stay underrated!!! I love it when people haven’t heard of my favorite band!!! Nothing better than a small cult following, but they are bigger than that.

Got the album already, its classic Kings. Full of accomplished rock n roll tunes, the occasional quiet, slow melody, and of course 3 or 4 of the best songs you’ll hear this year. As well as ‘On Call’, listen out for ‘Knocked Up’, ‘Black Thumbnail’ and ‘Charmer’.

  12. for the past 4 or 5 years, kings of leon have been “my favorite band” without any doubt. first saw them 4 years ago at ACL (my first time there – have been back every year since) and i caught them again (on a MUCH bigger stage) this past summer. love the new stuff, with the exception of on call – didn’t find it thrilling. knocked up sounds uber promising and i’m fairly certain that i’ll love the full album.

    so…

give it up, matt! what is that? i thought we were friends. pff so much for friendship.

anyone else wanna be a pal?

A lot of love for the Kings on here! I love it…They are amazing and I love the new stuff even better than the old.

  14. Finally, a place where the Kings are appreciated. They are by far the best band in the world bar none. They stand out in their sound and their individuality. Who sounds like them?? None. Jet tried, and failed. Miserably.

At least when they do “make it to the big time”, I know I can say I was there at the start.

Its a shame they always seem to relase their albums just after award ceremonies, when the next ceremony comes along they’re forgotten about, so they never recieve the glory in the press.

And, one last point. Who on earth made the video for On Call. They should be shot, its hideous. It also seems its a low budget “the label have no confidence in them, so we wont push the boat out” video. Its a tacky homemade ’80s video!!

They are the best, so why arent they bigger than the rest. I have questionned for a long time their management and label, does anyone else think they’re been let down??

  16. love u guys, back in the kol swing of things dont wanna listen to anything else but that husky voice!

  17. New album is kickin’, to say the very least.

Where’s all the anonymous hate, internet people? Do you not loathe yourselves anymore?? Decided not to take yourselves so seriously???

Am I the only one who still thinks they’re fashion whores? This track reeks of post-punk clichés that have been re-recycled by every band and their moms last year.

Aside from that, the production is so crispy clean that I’d guess KOL are the new victim of the MATRIX Team.
