You’ve heard “Marathon” and “Baltimore,” two singles from the boat-sailing indie-pop lovers of Tennis. The 7″ that hosts those tracks has a third, this one here titled “Cape Dory.” It’s another charming ditty, some sun, some guitars on fuzz, a lot of “sha-la-la”s.

The Tennis 7″ is out 7/31 via Underwater People — pre-order it. (You can download the “Marathon” and “Baltimore” MP3s right here.) Here’s one from their prior vinyl slab, the “South Carolina” 7″:

I like Tennis
Can’t wait to pick this up
her singing style is kind of like jemina pearl on sedatives
This may be because I just turned this off and put the new Arcade Fire back on but….
Every now and then I get really into a band like this because it fits my mood, or where I’m at, or the sun is out… but I just can’t help but think they made this music because they know its relevant right now. Fuzz-summer-retro-pop shit is in right now, and it’s summer time. These two have spent their last year on a fucking sailboat ?!? Who has the money for that? That’s like my ultimate fantasy
Anyways, all I’m saying is I think its lazy of us to love some happy-go-lucky pop song with some sha-la-las, when we could just as easily all go 20-30 years back into our records/cds and find better, more original sha-la-las and not give some opportunists our attention. They’re throwing together some catchy shit and putting some lyrics about sailing over it… I mean really? They’re called fucking TENNIS
and I hate myself for liking it… god damn it
You said what I was thinking.
I know what you’re saying but I really can’t help but enjoy all the songs they’ve put out so far.
Check them out on tour in 2011, http://bit.ly/hAIveZ
