A curious thing happened to Kelly Clarkson since being American Idol‘s first and most successful champion. She became an underdog. In the midst of experimenting with rock and country songs, and turning her back on the TV competition that launched her career, Kelly famously incurred the wrath of Clive Davis by insisting on artistic control over a darker, less commercial third album. Needless to say, she never matched the success of the “Since U Been Gone,” a hit even Ted Leo, Mike Watt, and adorable Asian kidz couldn’t deny. With its swift strummed intro and shouty chorus “My Life Would Suck Without You” is a pretty straightforward attempt to reclaim that glory. And like “Since U Been Gone” (and “I Kissed A Girl,” unfortunately) “Suck” was written by Max Martin and Dr. Luke. Which means you’re gonna hear it a lot this year.
Judging by that single cover, Kelly no longer has artistic control. (Someone’s going to mash this with “Lollipop” before the week’s over, aren’t they.)

I’ve just hearing about this on Idolator for weeks now.
It has nothing to do with her music, I just find it depressing the effect Katy Perry is having on music. Unlike alot of mainstream american pop artists, I respect that Kelly Clarkson at least tried to have some integrity.
And I”ll have you know I am a huge, unabashed Lily Allen fan.
It’s even more indie to purport the value of kitschy pop music and disparage well-regarded indie bands. A contradiction, I know.
But, really, there is no reason to cover this.

a shameless attempt to rewrite an old hit. the yelled acappella prechoral “cuz we belong” just like the yelled acappella prechoral “since u been gone”. the opening toned down yet fast clean guitar/drum combo. only difference is this song sucks.

The long road from “Since U Been Gone” to “My Life Would Suck Without You” must cross the River Styx. And pass by a Chico’s, obviously.
Awful! Truly awful! And even more awful than Kate Perry. Major labels just cook up the latest idea (nowerdays it’s Kate Perry, tomorrow – who knows?) until everyone in the pop business sounds the same. And then something slightly different comes up and everone thinks: “Wow! That’s really original”
A shame for the brave Kelly Clarkson and her efforts to break free from the cliché of music she was drop into with her last album “My December” which wasn’t that bad (for a former pop-girl and major artist). But then – she may change and mature again.
