The ’70s prog breaks in this song are so awesome. At The Day After, DJ Viv was telling me that their older albums aren’t as poppy. Which is fine ’cause my plan is to listen to this song over and over.
When Jeff Tweedy gets out of rehab, pat him on the back and tell him Wilco’s new album is gonna be a big hit with the Borders crowd. Hear other tracks from A Ghost Is Born here.

it’s going to be the summer of prog! i’m serious!
the new wilco stuff is eh. they aren’t the final mixes, i hope.
Wilco. Never got it, never will…
So much Tweedy hatin’!
I’m not a crazy Wilco fanatic, but the new album is good. Especially if you’re into The Band. It is a bit sleepy I admit.
There have always been a lot of Wilco haters on the internet, but it will probably get out of control with this new album, which is awesome btw and such a great step for them. They are still the best live act touring today. Amazing 3 hour shows and a charismatic, hilarious frontman.
erm… Tim… curious what Wilco shows you’ve seen?
i’ve seen them 8 times since 1997 (through 2002, didn’t see any last year), and the longest i’ve ever seen em play is JUST over 2 hours. they rarely go over 2. longest show that i’ve heard about is right at 2.5.
i love jeff tweedy’s voice. i’ve listened to it for countless hours. on this album though, it sounds totally different. i don’t like the change.
does anyone else notice this?
just me?
Surprise, surprise, Ryan Adams was whining about J. Tweed in some lo-fi Marlboro Magazine, that I think, I must be the only person who receives. He went on and on about how the other members of Wilco are merely puppets and how the Tweedster is hiding behind the name “Wilco” for um, some reason or another.
And did you hear about Weird Al’s ‘rents meeting their Maker because of carbon monoxide poisoning. Ain’t that some shit.
And and lastly, your pins are en route to NYC.
The end.
Jeff, I saw them 2002 in Louisville, KY. It was damn close to three hours, with two encores.
They played all of YHF save Jesus, etc. and a handfull off Summerteeth. The first encore was all Being There, maybe five songs and also “California Stars” because someone shouted it out and Tweedy made a joke and then played it. The second encore was new stuff like Kidsmoke, Bob Dylan’s Beard, Handshake Drugs, etc. So, yeah, counting the 5 minutes between both encores while he had a smoke, I remember the show running 3 hours or just shy of that mark. He also told quite a few stories. It was really great.
My favorite Tweedy comment was “charismatic, hilarious frontman.” I love Tweedy but he’s more brooding, awkward and shy.
Wilco has to play three hours because it takes them at least an hour to wake up. But when they do, they’re amazing.
Most people I’ve talked to about wilco shows think Tweedy has a definite, appealing charisma. I talked to someone that went to the Atlanta concert in 2002 (the one Pitchfork reviewed, the reviewer noting some funny comments) and he said he was hilarious. He was really funny at the show I saw. End of story.
ah, i’ve got a copy of that show on cd, it runs about 2:35
wow… I have never heard of Deerhoof and once again YOU have given me a gift of interesting music. From the very start of “Milk Man” with the Multive Octaplexor on that guitar, i knew i was hearing something really on another musical plane. Very trippy song, can you hear SLY and the Family Stone in there- (Everyday People). This Blendo song is like you took a ton of power chords and pure lead strains and funky melodies with saturday morning cartoons and mixed them all up to make this cake. Really tasty song… this is the kind of song the I would love to hear come on the radio, of course, my wife would give me some wierd look and want to change channels.
what happened to tweedey’s voice?
