M.I.A.’s “XXXO” gets a video that uses the same GIF-y illustration style as her press photos (as mentioned in her New York Times profile):
/\/\/\Y/\ is out now.
UPDATE: Vulture points the way to a second Maya video on the day, this one for “Illy Girl.”

I didn’t quite like the XXXO video. It tried to be kitsch as a way to make fun of kitsch, but all it managed to do is just being seen as kitsch, without the intended sarcasm for it pull through. So ultimately it wasn’t the idea that failed, but the direction or editing, I think (speaking as a music video director myself).
haha if you see the videeography and editing surely is the shittest shit I’ve ever seen
but I see it as fun joke and parody to cheap karoke, hahahaha
and btw thx for adding me ( you rocks MIA)
This video is in the myspace aesthetic. Which is beautiful. Also I am really happy to see someone acknowledge how fantastic some myspace pages are. I don’t know how else to explain it. I am mystified by the neg. reaction to the video.
The song on the other hand…. pretty boring. Oh well, maybe next time.
