Since Virginia post-hardcore band Engine Down’s 2005 breakup, Keely Davis has been playing with Sparta, which is fine and well — but we miss Engine Down’s sharply melodic brand of emotional punk. So it was nice to hear that Keeley and ED drummer Cornbread Compton were involved in a new project, crafted by trading files via email, and calling along Davis’s sister Maura (formerly of Denali, presently of Ambulette) for the 11-song effort Harmonium. Here’s one of our favorites, with Keeley hiding behind a slight filter effect before the song blooms into a shadowy burner.

Glös – “Unharmed” (MP3)

Harmonium is out 4/27 on Lovitt.

  1. Engine Down was rad. These guys continually put out great tunes. Cornbread’s raps are brilliant: http://www.cornbreadcompton.com/index2.html

  2. Yeah, I miss Engine Down too. That last Sparta album sucked.
