When we wrote last month about Jonathan Davis’s plan to perform “Creep” during Korn’s Unplugged taping, one of you proclaimed, “This is history in the making,” while another posited, “The only question in my mind is whether their butchering of ‘Creep’ will be more or less hilarious than anything on Twisted Sister’s christmas album.” Watch and learn.

Shouldn’t you have a functional falsetto before trying to cover Thom?

  3. Wow…just wow

  4. jimm  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

while this is bad, freak on a leash is worse. No only do they take everything that was entertaining out of the song away, but pulling their heads away as they omit the word fuck is the worst thing i have ever seen…this is in no way an attempt at accusing Korn of selling out by not cursing, rather pointing out an iconic image of submission to MTV and looking completely ridiculous while their faces seem to convey that they think they still have cred and are being creative by omitting the curse word in that fashion….

why did we like this shit? why are they still around? are Korn really considered elder statesmen of rock to the MTV crowd now? these are all questions i don’t want to answer

  5. My vagina just died. Thanks.

    *shrugs*

    It was ok.

But it’s not exactly a difficult song, so…

I just wish people would leave that *turns head away from mic* song alone. Radiohead have done so much more than Creap. They’ve done so much better. Thom even says he hates that song. So why do people keep going back to it?

The inclusion of it in that set seems to be a lame attempt at drawing attention to them. And oh look, it’s working.

    Best shut up now.

Yeah, I was really surprised he went for the radio-friendly ‘so very special’. I mean, isn’t this Korn? Aren’t/weren’t they supposed to be ‘edgy’? I at least expected them to Korn-it-up and make it crappy that way instead of opting for the boring route they decided on. I kept waiting for Jonathan Davis’s bizarre vocal snorts.

  9. eric  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

as an avid radiohead fan i disagree w/ this on a number of levels, but let’s, for a second, dissect the performance…

    –Faux-cowboy shirt?
    –Masks?
    –Instruments beyond Korn’s scope?
    –Terrible strumming

Please tell me this is not the next resurgence we’re heading for. Nu-New Wave is plenty for me to avoid. I don’t need nu-nu-metal too. oy.

Fuck yeah KoRn is The Fuckin Shit…and to everyone who says they suck and sell out shut the fuck up cuz you would do the fuckin same…KoRn is just sooo great and they are expanding my horizons…KoRn Rulez.

  11. Adam  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

Wait – someone actually liked Korn?

  12. Nathan  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

Isn’t covering ‘Creep’ like masterbating to Pamela Anderson? Everyone has done, had a mess to clean up, and moved on the bigger and better things. Let’s see someone get some balls and try to cover ‘Idioteque.’ Actually…I take that back. Let’s just avoid covering Radiohead.

  13. This is horrible. But it reminds me of the coverville podcast a few months ago that consisted solely of Creep covers.

    http://www.coverville.com/archives/2006/12/coverville_272.html

6 covers better than this one.

I feel bad for them. Monkey or Wrench (whichever one is the guitar player) has no idea what to do with a guitar with the distortion levels under 11. Brutal guitar strumming. Even worse singing.

  16. annie onymous  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

dont blame the guys for wearing masks. i wouldnt want to be associated with that either.

  17. Aw come on, they didn’t even give it their own Korny metal twist, I expected more.

  18. robb  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

    the title korn kover radiohead

is hilarious it sounds like a cave man exclaming it with sheer joy.

Porcelina, I don’t even have a vagina and my vagina just died.

  20. dajebus  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

this kinda proves my idea that the more distortion and octave pedals you hide behind, the less friends you had in high-school.

remove them and your left with the sad lonely kid who’s house smelled weird.

the Scala Choir’s cover is the only cover for me. teenage girls add so much to the songs, teenageyness…!

  21. Spencer  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

Was that a Therimin I saw?

All in all, the instrumention was pretty decent. The vocalization could have been better.

  22. Goon  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

its neither good nor horrible, any angry comments on here will be purely because Korn are easy picking for overly angry indie music fans.

btw this isnt the first metal Radiohead cover i’ve heard, theres a cover of “the Bends” by Anthrax out there that did everything it could to try to sound exactly like the original.

  23. Goon  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

okay, so now the song here is done. they added nothing new to the song, it was completely pointless to do, but embarrassing? not at all. there was no reason to make this post at all other than for people to hurl insults at a band you dont like for doing something unexpected.

  27. great guitar work.

  28. Jason  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

  29. Is there anything Counting Crows CAN’T do? Thos guys are amazing!

it was a glass harmonica, not a theramin

  31. Frank  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

This performance is really the equivalent to a second rate high school variety show. I like the close up in the beginning showing the elaborate acoustic stylings that this song demands.

  32. casey  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

that man’s facial hair liscence should be revoked. his upper lip is spotty at best.

  33. annie onymous  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

    to the people defending this:
did you LISTEN to the vocals? did you hear the “i got my first guitar last week!” strumming? it was terrible.

  34. Ugh… This wasn’t even worth the 3 minutes of my life I wasted watching it just to make fun of it. This band is beyond worthless. Ugh…

  35. Jack  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

This isn’t as weird a cover as you’d think. Creep is a self-hating radio rock song from the 90s. Korn is a band that plays self-hating radio rock songs from the 90s.

As for the cover, it was alright. I mean, they didn’t butcher it, but they didn’t do anything memoriable in any way.

And the sloppy strumming? If this was an indie band playing, everyone would be praising how ‘raw’ the guitar playing was it sounded

  36. jimm  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

“And the sloppy strumming? If this was an indie band playing, everyone would be praising how ‘raw’ the guitar playing was it sounded”

it’s not about genre, but exhibition of talent…so you’re pretty wrong there, plus nothing “was it sounds” good or bad because that’s not english

    i went there

  38. mike jones should cover idioteque. ICE AGE COMIN SOON!

  39. matt b  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

as bas as this is, there are some bad artists who’ve done a good job covering radiohead, for example john mayer – kid a. that’s the only song i like by him.

  40. zach  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

  43. PowderKeg  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

    That sucks shit.

    Peace.

  44. It wasn’t nearly as bad as I expected it to be but it was far from good. I don’t get why a band like Korn would bother doing a song so different from their own sound and not add their own twist to it. It’s just really boring.

But I agree that anyone that says “worst thing I ever heard” is just talking shit on Korn in general and not this particular song.

  45. dave  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

    both groups should fuck off

  46. That is so bad. Can’t breathe. So… Bad.

  47. Radiohead flat out sucks (one of the most overrated, whiny-ass bands of all times). Korn also sucks, just because, well, they suck.

  48. this not only sucks,
    but it also blows.

of the suck and blow becomes what?
    this, that’s what

  49. SuckyFucky  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

Korn have become a parody of themselves and they seem to be trying to hold on to whatever credibility they may have. Korn and Amy from Evanescence? Radiohead cover? They’ve got one good album that (that now feels dated) and they keep trying to reproduce that same sound that was popular how long ago? Tell them to give it up!!

  50. ensalada  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

let’s be honest. the differences between korn and radiohead are not as great as radiohead fans would like to imagine. they are both pretty awful.

  51. Zayin_451  |   Posted on Feb 27th, 2007

Honestly, I would be surprised if very many people that watch MTV regularly and really dig Corn have even heard the original Radiohead version of “Creep”. A majority of the population doesn’t pay attention to music the same way one of us does (one of us being someone that reads online music blogs regularly). Fans of Corn really will not realize that they tamed the lyrics down or atempted to copy the original sound or played the song poorly in comparison. Corn fans will just hear a really well written song, that is emotional and catchy. They will be in awe of “Creep” and will assosiate this Awe with Corn. To cover it is cheap, but really it’s a smart move for them.

  52. Youngy  |   Posted on Feb 28th, 2007

Pretty sure that Jonathon Davis was singing about himself. That guitar strumming was terrible. Korn should have at least been a little imaginative.

  53. like watching beck start to cover this song at bonnaroo. wait, beck was joking. and he played it better.

  54. hmm… the masks look familiar…

    the knife maybe?

  55. rupe  |   Posted on Feb 28th, 2007

    lets put it this way…

if i was dragged to see korn, and they came out with a radiohead cover and didnt make it all korny (zing!)… i wouldve been so happy.

but as for the performance… the only reason it was good is the material originated from radiohead.

  56. Come on, no one is mentioning Scarling’s cover of Creep? I’ve always thought that was the only worthwhile cover. I think My Old Kentucky Blog had a post where it . . . you know what, screw it, I’ll just post it myself:
    http://www.ualberta.ca/~keithz/scarling_creep.mp3

There. Ironically, far far heavier than Korn’s lackluster acoustic version (and simply musically superior).

  57. Matthew  |   Posted on Feb 28th, 2007

“why did we like this shit?”

    “WE” never did.

  58. jdor  |   Posted on Feb 28th, 2007

could it be possible that korn just likes the band and the song and this is just an homage/ giving props? its not (or shouldnt be)about korn reinventing or bringing something new to the song. they can simply just be fans just ate we are. dont over analyze just let it be what it is.

  59. jdor  |   Posted on Feb 28th, 2007

  60. mike d  |   Posted on Feb 28th, 2007

they could ‘be fans’ and write a song inspired or influenced by radiohead, instead of covering a song that’s pretty much the equivelant of a 96 kbps mp3 of a cd quality song. wow bad metaphor. yikes. anyway, korn is pretty awful.

  61. richard  |   Posted on Feb 28th, 2007

aside from somewhat nasally vocals, i didn’t think it was that bad. i have really never listened to korn and i always confuse them with slipknot.

but, the one thing i kind of like was the tom (or was it a timpani) that emulated the CHA-CHUNK of Greenwood’s guitars going into the chorus. nice and subtle, i thought.

i was surprised, and i think relieved, that they didn’t get all aggro on the song. but it also ended up feeling sort of un-original, so that’s a catch-22.

    i dunno.

but it’s certainly not the worst thing i have ever heard and to the poster above who says radiohead and korn aren’t that different i say:

    no, you’re wrong.

and i’d offer no evidence in support of that. because that’s the kind of guy i am.

  62. matt  |   Posted on Feb 28th, 2007

Korn seem to be embracing a new stage in their career where they’ve become entertaining as an unintentionally hilarious trainwreck of retardation. Thom Yorke would laugh in their faces if he saw this.

  69. Korn SUCKS DD  |   Posted on Mar 12th, 2007

How fucking dare they? How does one of the shittest bands in the world that has done nothing, cover a song by one of the greatest bands the world has ever seen that changes music with every CD they make?

    fuck-asses give up!!!!!

  70. LukePrestonKoRn1993  |   Posted on Mar 12th, 2007

seriously guys, you may have a lot to say about KoRn, most of which isn’t very respectful, but they are just trying different things. They are going straight back to Nu-Metal after this. The new album is supposedly like their older stuff which i personally like more than unplugged and see you on the other side. I respect that u all may not like them for valid reasons but please don’t say that they shouldn’t be here and that, they are just being experimental like many otehr bands. Corey Taylor has left Slipknot and Stone Sour is a hell of a change from what he used to do. Nobody ever has a dig at him though. KoRn will always be the biggest thing in my life, no matter what they do. They are coming out of their shell now and experimenting but they will be back soon.

  71. LukePrestonKoRn1993  |   Posted on Mar 12th, 2007

I also fail to believe that KoRn have done nothing. I’d love to see you have evidence of this, as they have played way bigger stadiums than radiohead. no disrespect to radiohead of course. Whoever said Thom didn’t like the song, think again, he does like the song. KoRn havent changed their ways, they have just done 1 friggin CD with acoustics. Think before you say guys, because some of you are making very little sense. My bet is that the majority of the people slatering korn have heard a few mainstream songs of theirs from back in the day. Please stop being so judgemental about a band that has accomplished everything they’ve aimed for. Fair enough if u dont like unplugged, but that affects nothing they have done in the past and the future is full of heaviness.

    http://www.ultimate-guitar.com

read it yourself you silly silly people.

  72. Korn sucks DD  |   Posted on Mar 13th, 2007

Only mainstream songs, no. I have every Korn CD, listened to them and liked them at one point, but they haven’t changed music like Radiohead has. When the Bends came out Radiohead went HUGE, then every fan waited 2 years for Kid A to come out and when it did, everyone was like what the fuck is this? Where are the somber tunes, the words, but guess what they changed music with that album, you gave it a listen 3 times and it was the best CD of all time to date for them. I do not disrespect Korn, they have done more in music that A LOT of people, but when you cover a great song done by an even greater band, you better do it well, and I just think it was horrible.

  73. Lifie  |   Posted on May 10th, 2007

KoRn is the best mother fucking band out there so I think you should just shut your fucking mouth. I don’t see your sad ass doing anything meaningful like they have done so who are you to judge? Step the fuck back and think before you say shit because you sound like and ignorant bastard. KoRn is much more popular the Radiohead will ever be. Don’t get me wrong I like Radiohead, not just as much as KoRn!! Have a good day fuckers :) KORN RULES!!!!

  74. “You’re so fuckin’ special”
Instead Jonathan Davis sings “You’re so very special”.

    Sadness
    Sadness
    Sadness

    HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  76. Lifie's A Fag  |   Posted on Jun 12th, 2007

KORN SUCKS BALLS and does not hold a candle to Radiohead, anyone who thinks otherwise is a jack-off stoner punk ass kid.
