The BBC’s Zane Lowe show premiered Arctic Monkeys’ first single from the forthcoming Favourite Worst Nightmare, and it’s a fuzzier, more intense, post-Klaxons sound we’re hearing from the Sheffield lads. Head to Scatter o’ Light to grab the isolated MP3 rip from the broadcast. The tune’s played back to back and features Zane’s patented, “Intevention”-esque “Hottest record in the world!” proclamation, quickly on the heels of yelling “Ouch! That just happened.”

Favourite Worst Nightmare is out 04/26/07 on Domino.

Hottest record in the world is the name of the segment on the programme…

Somehow they balance loud and in your face with being dreadfully boring all at the same time. masterful, really.

  3. It was first aired on a mexican radio station called Reactor, in the morning show called Antisocial.

  4. In this short article you managed to mention two of the most annoying things in Britain at the moment; The Arctic Monkeys and Zane Lowe. If you wanted a third and fourth I’d quite happily add the Sheffield accent and the Klaxons.

I for one like it. Now you can all go back to your Arcade Fire collections scoffing.

  8. i’m sorry, but although ‘brainstorm’ may be a shitty title the song is hot as shit.

i realize that most of you ‘gum readers are way too fucking “cool” to like this song and this band, but if you ever want to take your heads out of your collective asses you just might figure out that these guys friggin’ rock. period.

  10. I love the way that if you dislike a band that’s popular you’re somehow following a trend of the “wannabe cool kids”, whereas if you do like them it’s actually an opinion that you do. Someone can’t actually have a negative opinion about a band without trying to be “cool”.

It’s pathetic that people defend bands and opinions in this way, it’s almost like they feel embarassed to like them and are hurt that not everyone feels the same way, so they feel slightly left out for not understanding everyone’s view.

Just wish everyone realised that opinions are open and are going to be given in a variety of ways. It’s a shame that people automatically think you’re trying to avoid following a trend when you actually dislike something.

anyone who would be embarrassed to like (or dislike) a band has more important issues to deal with than their taste in music. that being said, it just annoys me that AM get slagged off by a lot of people just because they’re popular. if you don’t like the band that’s fine, just don’t like them for the right reasons.

hmm.. not sure if i like it. lets see how it sounds in a couple more listens.

  13. doggie  |   Posted on Mar 1st, 2007

Amazing song, Amazing band, full stop. Anyone who has an open mind and hasn’t already decided they don’t like it, are going to love it.

They’ve ripped off that “Boy Called Brian” song from “Life Of Brian” for this ( a little bit)

After my second listen I think it’s a great track but then again i loved the old album. As already stated it’s a shame that so many people have to try to look cool but disliking popular bands whether the music is any good or not. I wonder how many of them would have raved about this if it was released 2 years ago and the arctic monkeys were unheard of

  21. Heard the new song, and the band still have not done anything worthwhile since their first album. A bit of success has, as usual, ruined another group, not that they were anything special in the first place.

I agree that people houldn’t follow a trend because of other peoples opinions. I heard “Dancefloor” in Decmber 05 and the 1st time I heard it I knew they’d be big.

The fact that people say they are nothing special is rubbish… Best album vited for on NME and the Brits, as well as 2 gigs at old trafford, selling 100,000 tickets in 25 minutes.

work it out for yourself, but I know Fave Worst Nightmare will be awesome. roll on 23rd April!

  23. i’m confused, is the single brIAnstorm or brAInstorm… I know often people tend to mistype

  24. johan  |   Posted on Mar 18th, 2007

    BRIANstorm

  25. The band’s MySpace site says the new album will be available April 23 in the UK and April 24 in the US.
