Director Ray Tintori, who produced psychedelic other-worldly landscapes for MGMT, got an even bigger budget for the Killers’ new clip and he spent it all on costumes. They are crazy costumes, though. At the center of the Bowie-esque tale of alien abduction is Brandon Flowers in a bright red bodysuit with red football pads and plumage (natch). He’s the most subtly outfitted of all the humans and dancers attending the feast on skull tower.

Day & Age is out now via Island.

That’s nice of Brandon to make U2 feel better about their new song (until the video comes out).

  2. d@ve  |   Posted on Jan 23rd, 2009

Don’t you dare compare the 2 songs

    • Lance  |   Posted on Jan 23rd, 2009

I like Spaceman better than Boots, but that vid is crazies. Oh, and I will compare apples to asses if I want to.

      • brother jonas  |   Posted on Jan 25th, 2009

you can shove those apples up your ass :)

        • Lance  |   Posted on Jan 25th, 2009

You’re a delight! I’m sure you’re well-liked in person, too!!!! I wish you well and pray that there will be a day when you don’t have to pay for sex.

          • b-jonas  |   Posted on Jan 25th, 2009

the day i pay for sex is the day you get off your knees “praying” good sir.

          • Lance  |   Posted on Jan 26th, 2009

I’m an atheist. I was praying to the universe on the odd chance it would work. It obviously hasn’t. Remember some of the girls are undercover cops — wouldn’t want to see not paying for sex in jail.

          • b-jonas  |   Posted on Jan 27th, 2009

an atheist who prays lol. shut it

  3. anthony  |   Posted on Jan 23rd, 2009

this dude has lost his mind. love the day/night editing mistakes.

  4. Probably the best of the definite singles on the album (though I’d love to see “A Dustland Fairytale” get released), and they give us this? Maaaaaaaaan.

  5. eric  |   Posted on Jan 23rd, 2009

oh i get it, like the doctor

  6. jane  |   Posted on Jan 23rd, 2009

he looks so uncomfortable. haha i thought it was a good video though! and great song too.

  7. dancergirl  |   Posted on Jan 23rd, 2009

this video is awesome, wierd, fun, colorful and the song is so good!!

  8. So this is what The Road Warrior would look like if it was directed by Joel Schumacher.

  9. Johnny Thunder  |   Posted on Jan 23rd, 2009

Looks like the Killers have out-Of Montrealed Of Montreal.

  10. This is just a symptom of 1980′s “Glam Poison” that has claimed so many artists. To my recollection, Bowie is the only survivor– though at high cost, sadly Ziggy Stardust contracted a terminal amount.

Seriously though, I think it fits the song and it had me grinning– all that flamboyant showcase and fanfare over a thin veneer of vanitas, there’s more to this than peculiar costumes.

  11. crentist  |   Posted on Jan 23rd, 2009

he looks a little gaunt. diet? drugs?

    • western808  |   Posted on Jan 24th, 2009

Who? Brandon Flowers? He maintains a healthy diet, does not do drugs, no smoking. His religion, which he confirms plays a vital role in his decisions, is very strict and allows for none of it. Although begs the question-why be a rock star if no partying? Takes the fun outta it!

      • Chris  |   Posted on Jan 28th, 2009

He claims not to do any of that stuff, but I saw him smoking a cigarette on a balcony outside of the Wiltern in LA before a show in ’06.

    • Nope, I think his costume is just bigger than his head, therefore he looks skinnier than usual.

  12. Chris Davis  |   Posted on Jan 24th, 2009

    wait.. people like the killers?

  13. Jessie  |   Posted on Jan 24th, 2009

    “wait… people like the Killers?”

No sh** Sherlock. Maybe that’s why they sell records and perform on stage and tv shows. Hmmmm. Shouldn’t be that hard to figure out.

  14. adelaide  |   Posted on Jan 24th, 2009

    what the
    fuck
    what the fuck just happened?
why is he still wearing the fucking feathers?

  15. andyinstant  |   Posted on Jan 24th, 2009

After seeing this (which was an improvement…the video for “Human” was lame)
    i want two things:
    1. The red suit to replace the bird-feather-ensemble
    2. To be invited to that party….it all looks SO glamorous

  16. great track! 5 Stars!

  17. fellini  |   Posted on Jan 24th, 2009

Does this remind anyone of the end of Fellini’s 8 1/2? The last scene with all of the scaffolding being use to make the spaceship and all the footlights are pointing up at it.

  18. Love the Killers. It seems like their new music is getting better too.

ooh…i’m brandon flowers…i wanna be so avant garde, so bad…but god do i look like i am trying too hard to do it. please love me.

  20. Brandon looks like a walking version of the Kings of Leon album cover. ‘Nuff Said.

  21. this is kind of unintentionally funny

  22. i like the costumes

  23. kevin  |   Posted on Jan 24th, 2009

does anyone else think this video is amazing? i feel like brandon got lost in a great production set and doesn’t know what to do, which makes it all the better

but yeah, definitely out of-montrealed of montreal… i went to that concert and they should’ve spent more $ on the costumes

  24. The MGMT video is weird because those guys are genuinely weird humans, much like Of Montreal. This video feels contrived weird. And it looks like a home video.

The track is pretty good though.

  25. Yeah, this doesn’t feel like their style at all. Also, why does it seem that The Killers go out of their way to create videos that completely suck the life and energy out of their music? Weird.

  26. This video is great but it just doesn’t fit their usual style. I mean if I hadn’t heard of these guys before this, it would have been even greater but it just seems a little awkward to me. Either way I still enjoyed it.

  27. Diego  |   Posted on Jan 24th, 2009

Which other singles can come out of Day & Age? Losing Touch is the only good song lacking a video now.

  28. i never get to listen the whole album after listening to the very dissapointing in my opinion ”Human”! but after this i changed my mind, im gonna give them a second chance!:P

  29. you’re a very disappointing human! in my opinion

  30. I feel like they are trying to outdo the “All These Things That I’ve Done” music video segment of Southland Tales by replacing Heath Ledger, in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, with Orlando Flowers.

  31. chadwick  |   Posted on Jan 24th, 2009

Brandon says U2 are like “Liberace” and they should just give it a rest so The Killers can take over. Who is he kidding when this is what they have to offer? I feel so embarrassed for him. The song/video is so safe and easily forgettable. The Killers will never be innovative like The Beatles, U2, or even f’n Kanye West!

  32. the saddest thing about this is that it doesn’t even work as an epic, over the top, video. it’s like they used up all their money on the costumes and couldn’t afford a good director for it. it’s just not interesting to watch. complete failure.

brandon flowers’ costume is proof that these guys need a good friend by their side, the kind that will tell you stuff to your face even if it hurts!

  33. Kyle  |   Posted on Jan 24th, 2009

He looks like he wasn’t cool enough to join the Legion of Doom,

  34. I genuinely enjoyed that… and I’m not apologizing for it either.

  35. Was Ronnie even in this? I’m waiting for the Tarzan video for “This is Your Life” with the band swinging from ropes and wearing tiger skins.

  36. brandysgirl  |   Posted on Jan 24th, 2009

Ronnie is the guy dancing with a mask in the black & colored stripes unitard(?)
CHADWICK, you need to check your sources before you post incorrect comments & try to make trouble. Brandon said U2 were like Liberace because they work so hard compared to new bands that are not ambitious. He wants the Killers to be like U2 because he wants them to be around a long time.

  37. I don’t know what’s funnier: the costumes or Brandon Flowers taking himself so serious.

  38. John  |   Posted on Jan 24th, 2009

Good song ruined by a crap video. They really could have done something better. This is just being weird for weird sake.

I’m glad the extras from “Electric Feel” finally found some work again…

  40. chadwick  |   Posted on Jan 25th, 2009

Brandysgirl…Do you even know who Liberace is?!?!?! Ha. When people think of Liberace, I’m sure “ambitious artist” always comes to mind. So here’s another quote and there’s no “2 ways” to see this…”They’re unbelievable,” Flowers said of U2, “but they’re getting old.” The singer also added, “It feels like it’s time” for a newer, younger band to take over.” If U2 retires, where is the guitarist going to get his riffs from? Even though “When We Were Young” was a “hit”, all the guitar parts were so U2! I couldn’t help but laugh when I heard the solo and immediately thought of “Miracle Drug”. Whether people like U2 or not, they are innovative and they will still be played decades later.

    • yeah  |   Posted on Jan 26th, 2009

Who fucking cares? Just listen to the music.

    • Brandysgirl  |   Posted on Jan 31st, 2009

Chadwick, Yes I know Liberace. Yes, Brandon did say all the things you listed about U2 & he is allowed his opinion. But thats not what you posted at first. You did mis-qote it thats all I was saying. It is in Spin & I had the magazine right in front of me.

  41. andyinstant  |   Posted on Jan 25th, 2009

Its almost as if the Killer’s desperate yearning for rock divinity iand relevance s becoming part of their schtick….like the eyeliner and the Bruce Springsteen obsession

  42. Bullboy111  |   Posted on Jan 25th, 2009

im quite dissapointed, spaceman is a very good song but they have ruined with this video its just brandon flowers in a weird red outfit sitting on a table..
i expected alot more seeing as the person who directed it , directed legendary MGMT videos like Time To Pretend and Electric feel
    overall quite dissapointing

  43. Nirvava Lightfoot III  |   Posted on Jan 25th, 2009

Some Animal Collective wallpapering for the comming spring and summer and a challenging summer reading list will deprogram you in no time…Bon Jovi and Poison took the vacations they needed around 91ish…it’s a shame the blow wasn’t fatal.

  44. looks like it’s a standard Tuesday night for Brandon Flowers.

  45. miguel  |   Posted on Jan 25th, 2009

    lol he said tuesday

  46. hilariously terrible. video of the year.

  47. flowers  |   Posted on Jan 25th, 2009

Well, another poorly directed video with no vision. Bands need to think about filmmaking. not just their own image. A bunch of crazy costumes is not enough. This was a boring, flat video which is a shame since it’s a great track.

  48. tommy  |   Posted on Jan 25th, 2009

as a killers fan, I “wtf”ed at this.

what the fuck?? that was horrible . . . ray tintori is really hit or miss- time to pretend was amazing, electric feel was not as good and this is just awful. its not even trippy in a good way. its trippy in a “horrible acid trip that scars you for life” way. blegh.

    amen jesus.

  56. dalewoodward  |   Posted on Jan 25th, 2009

this guy looks like ben affleck. i wonder if somewhere out there he has a far superior, more talented younger brother,

  57. Annabelle  |   Posted on Jan 26th, 2009

    that was so weird!
it was like alice in wonderland meets starwars!
i’m not sure i like it or not..

  58. thumbs  |   Posted on Jan 26th, 2009

that was crap. kind of wish i didnt buy tickets to their show already if that is any indication of their performance.

  59. njoy  |   Posted on Jan 26th, 2009

I hate this song already because i know it will follow me for the next year.

  60. an actual killers fan  |   Posted on Jan 26th, 2009

you ought to be glad its following you around you won’t look like such a doucher now

    • njoy  |   Posted on Jan 27th, 2009

While your response warrants no reply I still must. This band is terrible. Seriously terrible. And by your name on this forum it just shows how due to the terribleness there are few fans left. I have seen them live too. I still think they are terrible. I was right up against a stage in barcelona and trust me they are terrible. did I mention they are terrible?

  61. It’s funny how his facial expression doesn’t change the whole time. I liked other songs by these guys, but the lyrics to this one were lame.

You’re the best BJ. Good luck with your future appearance on To Catch a Predator.

    • an actual killers fan  |   Posted on Jan 27th, 2009

all i have to do is yell from a kitchen, don’t run when they try to put the handcuffs on you.

  64. paquena  |   Posted on Jan 27th, 2009

Oh no! One of the worst music videos ever. It was just SOOOO badly made that it pissed me off because the song is really good.

  65. radio zero  |   Posted on Jan 27th, 2009

I’m just glad that someone finally had the courage and the foresight to pay tribute in song to Chris Parnell and his character on 30 Rock, Dr. Spaceman. (pronounced spa-chi-min) Thank you Killers!

  66. Holy shit, what the hell is wrong with these dudes. The lead singer has become a douche.

    • an actual killer fan  |   Posted on Jan 29th, 2009

have you ever asked yourself if you are the douche? because then i think things would be a little more clear for you.

  67. was this filmed at Burning Man?

  68. goof  |   Posted on Jan 28th, 2009

    it’s pronounced spa-che-man

  69. The Killers crack me up. Absolutely what I expect from them.

  70. Tals  |   Posted on Jan 28th, 2009

This seriously made me give up hope on them completely. Someone in the band needs to wake up and tell Brandon Flowers to chill out his idiot spandex dance dreams.
They go from the deep, ambitious sound of Sam’s Town to wannabe Brits dressing up like David Bowie?
Show the rest of the goddamn band, too. This isn’t the group I pined for a new album from for two years.

    • Yeah, and when Sam’s Town came out people were complaining about them going from the fun 80s synths of Hot Fuss to wannabe Springsteens. A band can’t make all their fans happy. People complain that a sound has changed or that a sound hasn’t changed enough. Personally, I like parts of every album the Killers release. None of their albums have been perfect, but they always put out at least a few amazing simple pop songs. Go back to listening to Sam’s Town and forget the new album then, if you “give up on them completely” just because they made a lame video. The song’s still great.

  71. d@ve  |   Posted on Jan 28th, 2009

    killers still rock quit hatin

  72. i love this song, kinda sad there are only 3 good songs on that album. B.Flo looks ill. At first his weight lost made him look cuter than he did previous but now he looks bad.

  73. johnny anon  |   Posted on Jan 31st, 2009

Is it just me or does anyone else think he kinda looks more like Edmund Blackadder than Bowie…?

    Also, this song is shite.

  74. This is a cool song. I thought the vid helped say all those things.

  75. I get a small of Montreal vibe from this song.

  76. Shocked at first, and thats what they wanted. The video creates attention like the lyrics of Human have.
All three of there albums are fantastic, food for the soul and something to really base your mentality on

  77. whitey  |   Posted on Feb 23rd, 2009

he looks awkward. the eccentricity appears contrived and stiff. it resembles a big budget ultravox video. he resembles an anorexic ben afleck dressed as a thanksgiving turkey.

the song itself is a desperate grab bag of lame choruses… an endless weak climax.

in the wake of the refreshing new take on electro-pop that people like MGMT are pushing, the killers whole schtick suddenly sounds rather dated. as you watch this overblown effort you can hear history whispering: “Times up Brandon, sorry.”
