More blasts from the past! Of all the new wave bands that have been pillaged for substance over the past few years, we’ve been expecting some band — any band — to start taking notes from the oft under-appreciated sounds of Squeeze. But a Squeeze reunion? We will take that, thank you. Billboard reports:
U.K. pop/rock combo Squeeze has jumped on the reunion tour bandwagon and will play U.K. shows under that name this fall for the first time since 1999. Group member Glenn Tilbrook made the announcement on his Web site, saying the dates come in conjunction with an extensive Squeeze re-release campaign of which he and member Chris Difford “are really proud.”
Chris and Glenn haven’t performed as Squeeze since ’99, but their separation always seemed amicable to us. In fact, the failed attempt to get the band back together for VH1′s Bands Reunited was due more to scheduling conflicts than anything else. Nice try though, Aamer Haleem! Last we saw ‘em was in ’96 or so. Great as ever. They shouldn’t be too rusty on the tunes, either; whenever Difford and Tilbrook play live, the band’s tunes show up in the set, and just last year, Chris released South East Side Story, a countrified take on Squeeze classics.
No word on which other original Squeezers will join Chris on the tour, but keyboardist Jools Holland is pretty busy these days. Just UK tour dates for now, but let’s hope they schedule a show with former background-vocalist Aimee Mann — and that she stubbornly insists that they come to her. Aimee can be stubborn, right? Tour flyer after the jump.

Am I the only one that finds this news remotely exciting?! Am I the only one (other than the Stereogum editors) that actually likes Squeeze?! Oh well.. your loss.
Back in the day, but not now, please.
I rather see some toe-gazing indie crap coz at least it would be now!
I’ll be much more excited if it comes across the Atlantic.
I saw there lead singer’s side project infront of 14 people at a free street festival in chicago. Most of those 14 were parents with there kids. SOmething is telling me thats the reason why no one dinds this very exciting not that many people really remember squeeze all that well. (they put on a nice little show tho and played all the squeez hits)
Jules had better haul his adanoidal arse onto this reunion/tour.
Chris Difford is perhaps the nicest man in rock and, indeed, roll.
That is all.
Squeeze is the most underrated band of the past 25 years. Difford and Tilbrook are the most underrated songwriters of this generation. I am over the moon right now.
come to the usa! there are only a handful of bands i would really care about seeing, past or present, and this is one of them.
This news has absolutely made my night.
I’ve been a Squeeze fan for more than 20 years, and saw them on the final tour in 1999. Been waiting for this for a long time. Hopefully, they’ll have the 80s-90s lineup of Tilbrook/Difford/Lavis/Holland/Wilkinson behind them. That was the best version of the band.
Now all we need are some stateside gigs.
Are you kidding? Squeeze is awesome. I’d go see them over The Police anyday!
Hits of the year, man…

Synth-pop at it’s finest. It doesn’t get much better than Squeeze:
Youve left my ring by the soap,
Now is that love?
You cleaned me out you could say broke,
Now is that love?
The better better better it gets
The more these girls forget
That that is love.
You wont get dressed you walk about,
Now is that, is that
A teasing glance has pushed me out,
Now is that, is that
The tougher tougher tougher it gets
The more my lips frequent
Now that is love.

I’m much more excited about this, than the Police reunion. Not that I dislike the Police, I just think Squeeze is awesome. Just a few weeks back, Squeeze turned down an offer to tour with Crowded House. That would’ve been a killer show.
Pulling Mussels from a Shell is dope. The Head Automatica cover eats it. The 2nd Head Automatica album eats it. Dan the Automater is dope, and needs to stop producing Jamie Cullum. Sure, Gorillaz got hooked up with DangerMouse, but what the fuck was HBMS’s ‘White People’ all about? GAAAAAHhhh. And go Squeeze!
I happened to get added to the guestlist for Chirs Difford’s NYC show last week. I figured, what the hell, I checked it out, and he was really fucking great. I hope they come to the states, that’ll be a hot show.
Squeeze was Molly Ringwald’s favorite band… that’s the only thing I know about Squeeze…
Squeeze and Molly Ringwald in the same sentence?!?!
DANGER! 80′s overload!!!
Those of you who do not know any other Squeeze songs besides, Tempted and Pulling Mussels From The Shell, must have been living in a cave!!! Or too young to know any better. I blame the record company for not doing a better job at re-releasing their albums. What most people forget is that Squeeze was on the same label as the Police, and a majority of the financial support went to their top band at the time. This is not an excus, but a fact. Chris Difford and Glen Tilbrook are wonderful song writters. I had the great opportunity to see them twice and was never disappointed. The first time I saw them was in the Nassua Coliseum in New Jersey on Thanksgiving. The Stray Cats opened up for them and Brian Setzer fell off of the stage during their encore. What a great show!!
coooooooooooool for caaaaaaats
