One of their newer tracks! No. It was “Teenage Dirtbag.” Could you imagine though? “Here’s a cover of a new Wheatus track.” That would be bizarre.
Anyway, here’s “Teenage Dirtbag,” which Weezer covered at both the Reading and Leeds Festivals last weekend:
It’s a good fit, especially with the song’s underdog and heavy metal themes. It was featured in the 2000 movie Loser:
Remember when you could wear a bucket hat and still be a legit pop star? Incidentally, Wheatus are in Brooklyn, and working on a new album. Weezer’s not-paid-for-by-Hurley album, Hurley, is out 9/13.

jessica,
i like you.
i just found this in the “About” section of Jessica’s blog:
“I am currently a staff writing at Stereogum…”
Wow, you guys pick the cream of the crop, heh? I mean, people make mistakes…but when you’re a “writer” and this is your blog and you’re explaining your writing experience…
What do you think, Wheatus?

In related news, RIVERS CUOMO IS 40 YEARS OLD.
He is A FOURTY YEAR OLD MAN and still completely clueless to the fact that, again, being FOURTY YEARS OF AGE, he is no longer able to tap into the hip culture’s collective angst. It’s lost to him. It’s lost with his youth. Maybe he should write a song about that?
Or maybe he should cover some Neil Young? I don’t know. What do old people listen to and identify with?
Dear Wheatus,
Your singer’s voice does not match his face… Or his outfit.
(Pleasantly?) Surprised,
Brock
A lot of idiots already credit Weezer with this song. Oh the irony
Used to drive me nuts (and still Kinda does, I guess), I don’t know why.
Rivers needs to Kchill
does anyone remember that bluegrassy cover of “Gin & Juice” (that was floating around in the limewire days) that posers thought was Phish?
I’m glad you mentioned this, because I felt like a lot of people thought so, even though the voices are totally different. I think it was just the desperation for new Weezer material back in 2000.
Thats funny because when I saw Wheatus live at a tiny club in my hometown, the running joke of the show once they took the stage was, “so when does Weezer play?”
I got to say, I will always like Wheatus.
It’s like an ouroboros of post-ironic suck.
oh how she rocks…in keds and tube socks
What ever happened to Jason Biggs, huh? American Pie 4?
