well before everyone starts making fun of fall out boy and the video, i will quickly say that i thought it was pretty good, and they put on a great show everytime
Yeah, I’ll admit it too, Fall Out Boy is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. Sometimes I like to eat Butter out of a giant tub and listen to Dance Dance on repeat.
Pete Wentz took that stupid careerbuilder.com commercial too far (the one with the guy who works in an office full of apes). That said, I really hope the next Panic! At The Disco video is fake directed by the Geico cavemen.
scott and company – maybe i’m only speaking for myself, but – please stop posting about fall out boy or any other shit band that makes annoying music for teenagers. you can play it off like you are using the post as an excuse to make fun of them, but its pretty transparent that the posts are actually an attempt to widen your readership so as to include people who actually like this stuff. granted, it’s not the biggest deal in the world, but the more your site becomes geared toward cheap mass appeal, the less it actually posts about good music, and the less inclined readers interested in reading about good music will want to visit.

Knightfrogger, I think you missed dan’s point. Nobody is saying you should like a band in secret – by all means, like what you like. The point was that stereogum’s posting about certain cheesy adolescent-baiting bands (like falloutboy) comes off as a disingenuously populist attempt to cast a wider net, as the expense of actual musical ‘goodness’. Ofcourse, it’s the site’s choice whether or not they want to go in that direction.
By the way, what’s wrong with admitting that you have a teenage-level taste in music. That’s says no more about you than you eye-offending decision to use nine exclamation marks over the course of three sentences.

My issue with fall out boy and all those other bands that are associated with it is that yes, the music SOUNDS good, catchy.. etc but as music it sucks, not original and it not real, Pete Wentz has his hand in so much shit he could quit fall out boy right now and retire rich. Its just a matter of respect. of which i have none for them.

Honestly, I don’t mind the lead singer of this band, he needs to lose some pounds cause he can’t handle singing live, but he is a good aspect. However, this video is ridiculously dumb and once again an excuse for Wentz to take the limelight. This band could be good if they didn’t have horrible public appearances cause it makes them seem really obsurd. I have to say I’ve never given FOB a good listen to – now I remember why. I couldn’t even get through the video and why bother – the song is complete and utter shit – but I imagine at some point they probably break into dance like their boy band predessors.

You have to wonder whether or not it was planned to have the youtube still frame be that phone. Sure looks like a phone commercial when you see just that. That was some ham-fisted product placement. These things can be done in clever ways, hell you don’t even notice most of the time in rap videos, but it is everywhere in those things. They could have taken just a little time to figure out some clever ways to do that stuff. Like the closeup of the body spray, completely unnecessary. If he would have held it a certain way, it would have still been realized that “oooh, he uses TAG, I must use TAG as well so my sidekick can be hacked too.” Whatever…it’s fall out boy.
