It’s hard enough disposing of a body. Things get increasingly difficult when the thing your dragging down the staircase, through the city, and toward a pier is still living. This is what we get in the Ryan Jeffery-directed video for “Pity Dance,” the first single from My Brightest Diamond collaborator and holiday cheer bringer DM Stith’s forthcoming Asthmatic Kitty full-length Heavy Ghost. Jeffery has a background in installation art (he’s repped by PDX Contemporary gallery) as well as music videos. You’ll get that sense in the carefully paced narrative conceit and strange pathos that unfolds across “Pity Dance.”
Heavy Ghost, which includes appearances from Shara Worden and Sufjan Stevens, is out 3/10 via Asthmatic Kitty. A “Pity Dance” single, b/w a cover of Randy Newman’s “Suzanne” is out 2/3.

Can’t wait for this album to come out. DM Stith is awesome.
Good song….haunting…creepy, that video was amazing, but I’m never going to listen to this song the same again. The images from the video aren’t going to go away any time soon…
I’m pretty excited to see him at SXSW. I think this is going to end up being one of the best albums of the year.
this album IS one of the best albums of 2009, i’m saying that right now as a promise.
fucking. incredible. so gorgeous. love to see this video for it. im so excited for people to hear this album and to freak out for it.
Wow, beautiful, morose, yet there’s something unsettlingly comical about the whole thing. And I agree, this album is fantastic. “Braid of Voices” might be one of the best tracks this year.
An astonishing album. For all those going mad for Grizzly Bear’s Verkatimest, they really need to hear this too.
