And since the irritating rap-rockers have a new album coming out that most assuredly will debut at #1, we thought we’d show you what they’re up to, just so you’re a well-informed hater. Clearly this is the band’s attempt at a Very Important Video — unless the images of 9-11, Gandhi, Castro, Saddam, the KKK, and melting glaciers are meant to be ironic. Wait do they have irony in nü-metal? ‘Cause that would explain a lot.

… That said, I don’t really listen to them much, I just get annoyed when… what was it… pretentious indie douchebags spread the hate of how bad stuff is. I mean, yeah, I know most mainstrean stuff, IMO, is godawful. I listen to a little prog rock and indie myself, so I hold to the same strong views at times. However, I don’t go perpetuating the hate by acting like an arrogant, ‘holier-than-thou’ asshole. Nor do I spam with ‘TOOL PWNS YOU ALL’ around message boards like a crazy extremist twit.

Listen, I don’t listen to Linkin Park either, but I’m not gonna criticize the band members or their fans. So what? You don’t like it? Fine. Don’t listen to it (and don’t waste your time bashing it. That makes NO sense), but let other people enjoy what they like. I’m sure you all listen to bands that people think “suck,” and I’m sure that strikes a chord with you.
If you’re like me and have a WIDE and VARIED taste in music, more power to you.

Are you insane? Linkin Park is one of the best bands of all time. Same with Nickle back. K fed sucks yes and so does the song “chasing cars”, but Don’t ever insult Linkin Park or Nickle back. they’re on the level of Queen, Kiss, AC/DC, Poison, need i go on? Divad… Ok… what I said before? Nickelback doesn’t count in all that. It’s a streaming pile of shit that doesn’t deserve a place on this Earth.
And while I can’t emotionally prove anything, on an instrumental level, Nickelback and Linkin Park don’t hold a fucking candle to the bands you mentioned. And while their lyrics might be ‘sad’ or ‘sweet’ or whatever, a band that puts their instruments second to their lyrics isn’t a band at all–it’s a solo artist with people playing in the background.
That’s moreover aimed at Nickelback, though.
This video absolutely sucks. Its just so terrible. Never mind how awful the fucking song is. This is the worst attempt at being a politically/socially aware band ever. Stock footage of war, Hitler, and the A-Bomb? Yeah, really great job at looking smart. And you people might say something like “OMFG!! LINKIN PARK IS SOO COOL FOR DOING THIS! ITS SO CONTROVERSIAL AND SMART! IT REALLY MAKES ME THINK!!” About what? This is nothing but some half-assed political statement and the little high schoolers will just EAT IT UP! Until the next hit comes along anyway. Because if it really had a point, it would last.
Yea Linkin Park apparently cares about all these social and environmental issues…thats why they’re spending god knows how much money and wasting energy (likely credited to smokestacks they keep showing in this video) to shoot some half-assed video attempt to become “controversial” and apparently political…maybe society has gotten them “one step closer to the edge and they’re about to break…”

There’s not a huge message behind this video… it’s just showing the problems in the world today. It’s not targeting the older crowd who used to listen to them- It’s targeting the new, younger people hence the band “coming back”. It’s an innocent video showing the things wrong with the world today…it dosen’t need to be critiqued this badly.

I like linkin park and if the kids are listening to it then the eagle and the cliches are a message that is new to them. Considering all the sex and gratuitous violence that is used to sell, whats wrong with these guys trying to sell a message to a young generation that up until now has been politically asleep?

I can remember the first time I heard or saw Linkin Park I was flipping channels and caught an MTV exclusive run of “I’m about to break” I stood up at about the time Chester was screaming shut up when I’m talking to you and I said to my self who is this band?? I watch the corner of my set until I saw the bands name and album title come up, I think I even wrote it down some where. this video is absolutely awful. linkin park is a decent band, at best. but after i saw this video, i was like, ‘who do they think they are, U2?’ anyone else think the clips of the band were way too similar to the vertigo video? or maybe the killers’ ‘somebody told me’ video? i suppose rocking out in the desert is hardly an original concept, but their way of making it unique was to throw in a bunch of free-use clips of nature and news events? i thought foo fighters hit bottom when they did it in ‘best of you’ but at least they’re a good band. and they didn’t use clips of 9/11 to cheaply make their video seem memorable and meaningful. it was a condensed version of the cheapness that ‘united 93′ was.
in summary, this video is a poorly made rip-off of so many other videos and ideas. it sucks.

I think that all of you who don’t like the video or think it is stupid, is because your and the countless other generations before ours F***ed up this world so bad. Almost all of the images you see are of wars from the “Babyboomer” generation, the civil rights movement, and the development and use of the atomic bomb in WWII, and the global warming issues we all face today and if we do not do something about it today, there will be no tommorrow for our children. I think the reasons you do not like the video is because it shows all the messed up things that have occured because the past generations did not learn from the mistakes of the ones before them. This video is meant to show all of the horrible things that have and are still happening on this tiny little planet of ours which we call the Earth. It shows us that it is NOT to late to change the world and that it is up to every person to do their part. Maybe, no hopefully people will open their F***ing eyes before it is to late….

Imagine the amount of energy you spent coming up with the words to describe your distaste; you could have done your laundry, helped a friend, read a book, wrote to your senators, started your own band for people to dislike…
I for one am a fan of everything from classical to rap; if it’s creative and makes me think, I enjoy it. Why does it matter who sings it, where it comes from? Maybe the world has been covered in bubblegum for too long, but to spend so much time arguing about the validity of Paris, Britney, or a nu-metal band has got to make you wonder what else you accomplished before eating your breakfast. No one’s right, no one’s wrong. Accept that other people enjoy music different from your own tastes and just let it be.

I’m a science teacher and one of the curricular units I teach covers environmental responsibility. Last year, one of my students asked if she could share this video with the class. While I was apprehensive at first and insisted on previewing it, I was unexpectedly amazed. I found the lyrics and visuals were great at delivering a very clear message: We have a responsibility to recognize that our actions are harming our world and its people and we need to change what we’re doing.
“What I’ve done.” Such a simple statement, yet a huge one. Actually recognizing and taking responsibility for mistakes instead of casting blame elsewhere or dening the existence of a problem – it’s refreshing to hear. And it’s an important message to our youth and world today.
I think Lincon Park has made this a really smart video. And the lyrics go so well with it. Actually, it has impressed me so much, that I have started to show this video to each new semester of Science students I teach. Then, I ask my students what they think the video is saying to them. And ever time I am amazed at the comments the students make and the different things they see and pull out of the it. It has proven to be a very positive video/tool.
Believe it or not, teenagers/youth do listen and take notice. So regardless of whether or not people like Lincoln Park, this video has sparked some really positive discussions in the lives of my students, and it has caused them to look differently at themselves and what WE?ve done.
