Kanye West - Runaway single cover

Hope you guys enjoyed the pizza party. We’re a little bummed Twin Shadow lost Best Swagger Coach, but at least we got to see Ke$ha in the trash bag she deserves. As a reward for sitting through the whole thing was this eye-catching performance from Twitter’s Kanye West, who we haven’t heard from in a while. (Isn’t it weird none of the VJs even mentioned Twitter?). For the plinky toast to douchebags and assholes, Yeezy sported a cherry red suit and got assistance from “Good Friday” cohort Pusha T and a bunch of ballerinas.

There’s also this arty short video to promote it.

RIP Chelsea Handler.

  1. “Certainly the most poetic chorus of our time…” – Mark Zuckerberg

  2. If nothing else Kanye is always fantastically interesting. Also, this was a great performance visually. Nowhere near his best beats and lyrics are hackneyed as ever, but whatever I liked it.

  3. Pretty cool to have just him and the sampler up there as a (not so) subtle way of telegraphing that he makes the beats and isn’t some talentless hack.

  4. I agree with Bobby Strobeck. Would love to see Kanye build a live show round just him, an SP12 and a mic. Totally psyched for the new album, more and more

  5. The beat for Runaway sounds like Mezzanine era Massive Attack…….and the live sampler was the best part, I mean who’s done that in mainstream hiphop since Gang Starr?? NOBODY. This is kanye’s triphop song, this kanye’s more experimental album. BON IVER! I think he just needs Grinderman on a track, and he’s good to go.

  6. instant classic

  7. nice beat, sounds a bit familiar tho

  10. Can’t believe this video is getting all these bads comments. Visuals were great. A standard kanye performance.

  11. ouch. that “singing” voice. the lyrics are ridiculously bad, but i guess we shouldn’t be surprised since kanye west admits to not reading books. ugh ugh ugh. why does anyone follow this guy’s output ?

  12. I havent even watched this video yet, I’m still trying to decyfer what is written above it. Who wrote that garbled mess? Its almost jibberish. You are very very lucky that the internet exists. Cos otherwise you’d be fucked

  13. It would be unfair of me to critique, as I was forced to stop watching just halfway through, due to shear boredom.

  14. lord,lord,lord

  15. Thumbs up if you agree that Kanye is overrated and sampling is the only way he’s been able to get by. (Btw, my first official comment on stereogum ever)

  16. Shame on you Kanye, you think you can steal ideas from an obscure band. Check this out
