Most revealing for Björk heads is her comment towards the end, saying that, for Volta, she wanted “plucked strings instruments” that sounded “like the ocean … but more dirty sounding than when I did, for example, Verspertine; (then) they were all very clean … they were all very celestial, like the music that happens in heaven or something. And this time around I didn’t want to go for that, area … Kind of going for something more, pagan.”
