Feist has ambition. The New York Times has a piece profiling Leslie’s rise, direction, impending stardom, offering cute quotes (“I’m on the archaeological dig to find the place where my heart ended up”), noteworthy facts (sorry guys, she’s dating fellow BSSer Kevin Drew) and getting some backstory from one of Feist’s closest colleagues, Canadian keyboardist Jason Charles Beck (a.k.a. Chilly Gonzales). The NYT details the duo’s shared history: Feist and Chilly (along with Peaches) toured Europe together shortly after Monarch was released in ’99 (the two rapped together while on that trek), and Gonzales would go on to produce both Let It Die and The Reminder.
And this is a perfect opportunity to suggest Gonzales’s ’05 release Solo Piano. The instrumentation is just what the title suggests, and there’s no need for accompaniment; Beck’s classical comps are serene and cinematic throughout. Stream it here and relax.
The article also talks up Feist’s single-shot, choreographed vid for “1 2 3 4” that we posted last week, and she’s already got another clip of the same: one shot, lots of dancing, Leslie looking lovely — but this time she’s on an airport’s moving walkway. Yeah, we know what that reminds you of.

oh that gonzales album is fantastic. somehow its simple and complex at the same time.
and too bad about leslie and kevin…he’s quite an asshole. and im not just saying that out of jealousy.
these videos rule.
and yeah, that kevin dude is a dickhole.
i thought he was married…
fine i’ll be the one to say it….that’s a threesome i’d be open to (and it’s not the cool kind). how could you not come out of that more musically talented?!?!?
What’s going on with these videos in terms of being singles?
Is it one’s done for America and another for UK?
Or a double A-Side?
Oh, and “she’s already got another clip of the same: one shot” isn’t quite true for this one.
Still good though.

“these videos rule.

I dunno.
Kevin has a rep for acting like a dick, but I doubt it is deserved, since most people seem to based that on his on stage attitude, but not much else.
And, when I read this, I too immidatly thought “Isn’t he married.”
I did hear he was going through a seperation though, or something.
I love Gonzales! This is the Gonzales I remember anyway:

(And “Salieri Serenade” on the same album with Feist is an excellent track)
greetings from Toronto!…you know what people? Kevin Drew really is a fucking asshole!
How about just picking one name for the guy, instead of alternating between Beck and Gonzales? Bad show.
I love Leslie. Screw Kevin.
That’s Lester B. Pearson Airport! Toronto REPRESENT.
i would like to present some photos as evidence of kevin drew’s feist worship, i’m guess links are not allowed here, so click on my name.
Feist should have stuck with Buck 65.
i will marry leslie
haha i thought kevin drew was gay.
at any rate, he has this reputation for being a dick and a primadonna, but i dunno… i met him at a jason collett concert in toronto and spoke with him for a few minutes. he seemed pretty damn nice to me, and was very talkative and kind.
Is that Feist or Amanda Peet? I reckon that’s sort of bad dancing. great song. it feels to me perhaps better suited to an aerobics workout. oh well
Is everyone of Feists video going to involve dancing?
SO hot ! feeeww ! Gimme more dancing videos, I think there will be some live dancing more too. About Kevin Drew, the man serves as a part time pretty boy. Well known facts that it tortures him to see her on the road or out to France recording… I’m sure she enjoys the fresh Provence air.
by the way, the gonzales I know is also the dirty acid sound beat for Katerine “Les robots”. I also had a chance to see at a mesmerising evening in Montreal when he was a guest pianist with Irving Fields. Then he got weird bot good with an organ rendition of solo piano dressed as friggin monk…
All you need to know is that Leslie Feist and Kevin Drew both write incredible music. If you ever have the opportunity to hang out with them and know what is going on in their personal lives, you can judge them on a personal level. Until then, just be glad that the two cute indie canadian rockers found love and are still writing fucking awesome music. Deal?
Well said. This poster is wise. Everyone should listen.
