I’ll echo the sentiment of “Rock ‘N’ Roll Suicide”. In fact, there are few songs that mean as much to me as that one. Every time me and my friends would have a party or just hang out drinking in college, the night always reached its zenith when this song was played. I can just visualize all of my friends, scattered around the world now, back in my living room, fists in the air screaming “OH NO LOVE, YOU’RE NOT ALONE!”
Sorry if this is too earnest, but damn that song is excellent.
Can’t agree more. I bounce back and forth between favourites but this one’s definitely a top 5.
clearly Starman.
“Lady Stardust bar none. “Lady Stardust sang his songs of darkness and disgrace.” Could it get any better?
1984.
It’s so difficult to choose a favorite. I’m gonna go with “Lady Grinning Soul”.
Time!!!
So difficult, but I’ll say
“Modern Love”!
heroes
Hands down, my favorite song by David Bowie…
“Rock ‘n Roll Suicide”
Oh, my— it could only be “Teenage Wildlife:”!
Lady Grinning Soul
Cat People
Rebel Rebel
Heroes, classic, if upsettingly standard.
Favorite song is “be my wife,”
It has to be “Life on Mars?”
How can it be anything but?
Warszawa
Be My Wife, for sure.
As a huge fan of “2001: A Space Odyssey,” I have to say “Space Oddity” is my favorite Bowie tune.
Queen Bitch !!
DRIVE-IN SATURDAY!!!!!!
Best line ever:
“She’s uncertain if she likes him
But she knows she really loves him”
I love Bowie…
that is a great line
As The World Falls Down
Cliched, I know, but “Life On Mars” gets me every time, as does “Heroes”.
I don’t know, I haven’t listened to every Bowie song yet..but I really like Heroes. On Station To Station I think my favorite is TVC15. =]
Wild Is The Wind
Station To Station. It’s perfect, and represents everything I love about Bowie.
The Wild-Eyed Boy from Freecloud! This is an awesome contest idea!
TVC15…hands down
It varies, but currently “Let’s Dance.”
Rebel Rebel
“I Dig Everything” haha
I find myself singing “Eight Line Poem” at random instances. People rarely look me in the eye anymore.
Oh! You Pretty Things
I love “Always Crashing In the Same Car”
“Life on Mars?” definitely :)
My favorite song from the Thin White Duke is “Heroes.”
“Ashes to Ashes” because I’m thinking of it right now. But there are so many that I equally really, really love.
So I’ll honorably mention: Sound and Vision, Absolute Beginners, Rock ‘n’ Roll With Me, Oh! You Pretty Things, Be My Wife, Golden Years, Velvet Goldmine, Andy Warhol, “Heroes”, Sons of the Silent Age, Starman, China Girl, the entire suite of instrumentals ending both Low and Heroes, and every other song that was already mentioned here (except for “Cactus” and the one from “Tonight”. Alright but not my favorites.) Ok, ok, I know…
The Man Who Sold The World, with Starman as a runner-up
Wow, it is really difficult to pick a favorite, but the one guaranteed to send me spinning around the room is Panic in Detroit
Psychadelic Dylanesque Bewlay Brothers:
In the Crutch-hungry Dark
Was where we flayed our Mark
Oh, and we were Gone
Kings of Oblivion
We were so Turned On
In the Mind-Warp Pavilion
Lay me place and bake me Pie
I’m starving for me Gravy
…etc.
Quicksand
“Heroes”. Such a sad song.
“John, I’m Only Dancing”
Width Of A Circle
Gee, Station to Station is my favourite Bowie album and I can’t even try to win is darn thing.
Moonage Daydream!
i think it’s impossible to choose simply one song… i’ve always loved everything about hunky dory, especially life on mars? & oh! you pretty things, but i also love moonage daydream, space oddity, queen bitch, cracked actor.. and so so many more. i love his music!
Life on Mars!
Modern Love
Modern Love
TVC15
my favorite album is Lodger. amazing songs are too numerous to mention.
and i know i wont be entered into the contest because i refuse to sign up for facebook.
and that’s just bullshit.
I can’t act like it’s not “Rebel, Rebel”! So I won’t.
“Time” … or maybe “Ashes to Ashes”
too many..but “golden years” gets it
Heroes or The Man Who Sold the World.
Slip Away
wild is the wind
Let’s Dance is my favorite David Bowie song. It was my favorite karaoke song to do when I lived in Japan.
i’m a sucker for modern love!
Heroes
Fascination. Crowning achievement of his Plastic Soul foray.
HEROES
I’ve always been partial to “Life on Mars?” Great song.
I’m afraod of Americans or Life on mArs
NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED
Loved his cover of Waterloo Sunset. Also, Golden Years. My dad used to play it all the time when he would drive me around when I was little.
Ch, Ch, Ch, Changes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All Hail the Great David Bowie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Breaking Glass”. Yes.
Station to Station!
Favorite Bowie track right now? Up The Hill Backwards…….this might even be my favorite this month.
There are so many great ones though. Sound And Vision is obviously up there. Panic In Detroit, Breaking Glass, Ashes To Ashes, Jean Genie, Oh! You Pretty Things, China Girl, Station To Station, Ziggy Stardust, and on and on and on and……………………………………
Panic in Detroit.
It’s a difficult choice because David’s changed so much, throughout the years, and has so many unique sounds. One of my all-time favourites, however, would have to be “We Prick You.” It has a hypnotic beat and very moving lyrics. I found the whole “Outside” album quite intriguing.
Breaking Glass.
Word On A Wing. Can I have a box set then, please?
Lady Stardust
Life On Mars
“Life on Mars”
Most definitely would have to be Sound and Vision off “Low”. (Psst I have an american mailing address).
“It Ain’t Easy.”
But really anything and everything on Ziggy Stardust.
whoops, guess I wasn’t facebook connected there…
“Let’s Dance.” Let’s swing.
So many to choose from, but my personal favorite at this moment is “Slip Away” from Heathen. it’s the perfect sonic sequel to “Life On Mars?”
Like many other commenters, Life On Mars is my favorite Bowie song; in fact for 35 years Hunky Dory has been my favorite Bowie LP.
I guess I’ll get all crazy in here and say “Lady Grinning Soul” ..
i love so many but i’ll have to go with “golden years”
Putting Out Fire (Theme From Cat People)
Probably “Bombers”. Shame it got cut from Hunky Dory the first time around.
If I don’t say “Life on Mars” my seventeen year old self will beat the crap outta me.
My favorite Bowie song changes about every month or so. Last month was Queen Bitch, but now it looks like its Changes. How fitting!
Blackout from Heroes. Because it is awesome.
His songs from Jim Henson’s the Labarynth…Orrrr Suffragette city.
“five years”
TVC15
note: it is absolutely impossible for me to really have one favorite bowie song.
“Space Oddity” so powerful and tells an awesome story.
…Hey, the song “Somebody Up There Likes Me” is always a great pick, but to tell you truly this is a catalog of work from an artist that makes selecting one song virtually impossible!
It might be silly but I love the Magic Dance song from the Labryinth
favorite Bowie song would be Life on Mars
“Heroes” 6 minutes of awesome
i would have to go with “Sound and Vision”
