By now you’ve realized that we’re probably the only people in America not watching Idol. Not ’cause we’re too good for it (we’ve seen that reality show Wedding Crashers — made us wanna slit our wrists), it’s just that the talent seems pretty boring.
So Tuesday night, New Jersey’s own Jon Bon Jovi was mentor to the contestants, and he let this happen.
And the judges loved it! They acknowledged the risk, Simon acknowledged it would polarize the voters. But beatboxing Blake “made it his own” enough to move on. And remind us why we haven’t been watching.

Aside from the beginning record skit which made him awkwardly miss his cue I thought it was pretty solid.
i don’t like it when white people steal stuff from black people. this guy’s whole bit is a ripoff of Rahzel. but yet everyone in the audience for this probably thinks this guy is a musical genius.
kinda like when white people thought Justin Timberlake invented beatboxing.
Yes, evil whitey “stealing” beatboxing. Give me a break. Don’t turn everything into a race issue, it’s American Idol for christ’s sake.
“i don’t like it when white people steal stuff from black people.”
I wouldn’t mind having a gander at your CD collection to see just what percentage of your favorite white artists have stolen from black people.
Nobody cares. 6 months ago this wouldn’t have made it near Stereogum.
This is now just a celebrity gossip page.

So, shutup? You’re ignorant? It could be argued that the origins of hip-hop originated from a form of talking blues which came from combining irish ballads with african rythm based chanting. But then where did those things come from. Oh makes your head hurt!
But Wait! it’s easier to be baseless and racist isn’t it? No one Race ‘invented’ anything.
Check out this guy from the French version of Idol,

they took him to the second rounds in Paris but he didn’t make it to the 3rd round. Still they invited him back for a special performance at the prime time show the other day.
Right, Knut. You’ve been reading stereogum for six months, then. Try 2004.

American Idol was over when my MOTHER started keeping a blog on it.
the very essence of racism is the fact that one race lays “claim” to something over another race. in a country where black artists dominate the airwaves, i honestly don’t think anyone truly thinks “whitey” started beatboxing. if this was 1991, you’d probably be saying the same thing about vanilla ice and rap.
so first you say you havent been watching bc it’s boring. (i agree, most of them all really fucking boring.) but then you said that blake reminded you of why you havent been watching. so you’re saying that shit is boring? weird maybe, but boring? blake is probably the least boring person on the show. no one’s had the balls to do something like that in the history of the show. a video of chris would probably prove your boring point far better. thank god that guy is gone.
Sorry, replace “boring” w/ “bad”?
A post that combines beatboxing, the grim spectre of racism, the musical gameshow that is You Bet Your Idol! AND Jon Bongiovi…
Has the world gone topsy-turvy?!?
DwD
FRIGTARD.
If ANYONE (white or black) got up on a stage that wasn’t American Idol…. and beatboxed a Bon Jovi song (and as poorly as that)? They would be laughed off before they were halfway finished.
No other show on television encourages idiots like American Idol does.
