A couple of weeks ago we announced a giveaway of David Bowie’s Station To Station box, our first since February. Today we randomly selected our winner: “Tumble And Twirl” fan Lindsay Jones, you are one lucky soul. Since people were so into the last contest, we figured we’d try another. John Lennon would have been 70 this Saturday. To commemorate the milestone, EMI worked with Yoko Ono to put together the 11-Disc Signature Box. All the albums have been remastered by Allan Rouse and team at Abbey Road. Here’s a rundown of what’s on it:
- The digitally remastered studio albums (Plastic Ono Band, Imagine, Sometime In NYC (2CD), Mind Games, Walls & Bridges, Rock n Roll, Double Fantasy, Milk & Honey) plus 2CD bonus set featuring 13 previously unreleased home recordings and more.
- Personal essays from Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon, and Julian Lennon.
- A 60 page hardbound book with rare photographs, drawings, never before seen collages, & handwritten lyrics.
- The cover art for the new titles includes original drawings by Sean Lennon for Double Fantasy Stripped Down, while the cover of 1974’s Walls And Bridges is restored to its original artwork.
- A commemorative art print and new career essay by Anthony DeCurtis.
It came out yesterday and retails for $129.99. To be eligible to win, all you have to do is be a fan of Stereogum on Facebook, and submit a comment on this post with your favorite solo Lennon song after logging in via Facebook Connect (do not use your ‘Gum user account on this post — we’ll have to be able to check if you are a fan of Stereogum on FB when the sweepstakes ends). We’ll pick a winner from the comments posted here, at random. Deadline to enter is in two weeks: 10/20 at 5:30PM EST. Have your comment logged by then, and you’re in.
More info is available at johnlennon.com. Also, there’s more 70th Anniversary Merch on the way.
UPDATE: We have our winner! Congratulations “Instant Karma!” fan, Lane Fielder.

OOPS! I guess not, me read better next time. Favorite Lennon song is “Imagine” because i am original an not predictable at all.
You definitely deserve something for the .gif.
I WANNA give you ALL the albums, Chris, for THIS GIF.
I’m a big fan of Watching the Wheels.
“Julia.” Fingers crossed.
Woman…..
Grow Old With Me
Watching the wheels
got to be Imagine
Watching The Wheels
“God”, “Mother” is pretty great too… assume we’re talking solo stuff only
“hold on”
COOKIE!!!
“Watching the Wheels”!!
“Look at Me”
I think my favorite is “Mother,” oddly enough. #deadmomclub
I don’t have a Facebook account and don’t want to win anything, but I have to say: “Mother”!
I have no Facebook either, however, I would like to win this really fucking bad. And since I’m not going to win, I will pick three: Watching The Wheels, Jealous Guy & Oh Yoko.
Number 9 Dream
Is there an alternate way to enter?
Lots of people do not use Facebook
Oh My Love
My favourite song would probably be “God.”
<3 Lennon
Imagine!
Love Lennon, still hate facebook. With that being said…. “Bless You”.
I favor “What You Got”.
Watching the Wheels!!!
It might be predictable, but God is an amazing song.
Jealous Guy. The Best.
Stand by Me. Definitely.
“Oh Yoko!” always puts me in a better mood. Especially the harmonica madness toward the end.
Watching the Wheels.
Watching the Wheels is my favorite for today. I always loved the line “Life is what happens to you while your busy making other plans”. So true.
Real Love!
Instant Karma! For sure.
YOU AND me Jamie, ON A TRAIN to fuckin RIGHTTOWN, USA.
Strawberry Fields Forever
favorite solo song: GOD
Serve Yourself – by a million miles. What an ace song.
This isn’t an entry since I already wasted money on this…but just so everyone knows:
the box set does NOT contain the new Double Fantasy Stripped Down, the one with the Sean Lennon cover art.
‘How?’ is his best all around solo song…also, shame on the guy who said ‘strawberry fields forever’…go back to work dude.
Favorite Lennon solo song is “God.”
How Do You Sleep?
My FAVORITE is “INSTANT KARMA.” FOR reals. I KNOW it’s not as “dark” as his OTHER STUFF, but THAT SHIT is a fuckin jam.
Also YOUTUBE LED me to this VIDEO AND holy hell IS IT depressing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Uzc8kndcfA
Imagine. hands down
Mind Games
watching the wheels
Beatles-era – Strawberry Fields Forever
Solo-era – Jealous Guy
John is too great for words.
oh yoko!
Real Love! If that one doesn’t count, then Jealous Guy.
Nice package design.
God is my favourite!
Gimme Some Truth
Borrowed Time.
I’mma get rid of the pimples, so she loves me.
Favorite Lennon solo track? Sheeit, ‘s some pretty heavy competition, but it’s gotta be Woman is the Nigger of the World. “This song is based on something Yoko said to me in 1968, but it took me ’till 1970 to dig it.”
‘Mother’ is so amazing! i’m getting goosebumps thinking about these shiny discs..
Imagine
Jealous Guy, hands down. For a guy like Lennon to have enough bravery to admit the few tiny things that he does in that song… that takes balls.
Without a doubt “Working Class Hero”.
Favorite Lennon song? How Do You Sleep.
But the Watching the Wheels demo is breathtaking.
Watching The Wheels
“Woman” is my favorite Lennon song! Reminds me of my Mother and all the woman that i’ve admired throughout my life.
Oh Yoko!
Mother!!!
”God” is his greatest song although decide it is too hard for me.
“Oh, Yoko” because it’s so simple and personal.
“I Don’t Wanna Be A Soldier”
“Instant Karma!”; it’s going to get you.
How Do You Sleep?
love those Paul disses.
also that green day cover John does “working class “hero”
Working Class Hero
Watching the Wheels
“Watching the Wheels.” Lennon was consistently open and honest in his songwriting, and this song sounds like a personal letter.
Woman :)
Nobody Loves You (When You’re Down And Out)
gottta say it’s woman is the nigger of the world
Working class Hero
It’s got to be Imagine!
Still “Hold On.”
Working Class Hero, no doubt. Those fuckers in Green Day are lucky Lennon didn’t pop out of his grave and shoot them all in the fucking face for what they did to that song.
Old Dirt Road. Walls and Bridges. Great and underrated record.
i don’t want to be a soldier
“Working Class Hero”
Imagine for sure hands down!!!
Jealous Guy
Isolation
Mind Games, totally.
“Remember”
the anthology demo of “nobody loves you (when you’re down & out)”
How can one choose a favourite John Lennon song? Not easy I would say, but I’m Stepping Out is pretty cool!!!!!!!!
oh yoko!
Gotta be “Jealous Guy” in a squeaker over “Happy Xmas.”
So many to choose from, but I’ll say Jealous Guy.
Oh My Love
“Working Class Hero”
Definitely “Working Class Hero”
Favorite John Lennon song: Power to the People!
Hope I win!
#9 Dream
Really everything is amazing off of Plastic Ono Band…but my favorite Lennon solo song has got to be “How?”
I’m gonna be unoriginal and say Imagine.
“Jealous Guy”
hhmmm- it’s constantly changing but for the moment it would have to be Instant Karma..
Whatever Gets You Thru The Night
Jealous Guy!
“imagine”, thanks
