The latest single in the Green Label Sound series is from BTW Freelance Whales. I’m not sure if this is one of the Emery Dobyns-produced tracks the band Tweeted about just completing, but you can definitely hear them moving away from precious, tinkling indie pop and to songs with fewer, stronger elements (You hear it on songs like “Hannah” too). Wow, that’s really nice. Almost a glitchier Choir of Young Believers.

What a perfect little indie gem. Its a lot better than I expected from one of the dozens of “whale” bands. Nice 5/4 feel, too.
Get that money, Freebie Weevils!
I like this, but I have always liked Freelance Whales. I kind of wish they had used more live instruments and less synths, but I can’t complain, they did manage to through in a cool time signature.
