Covering “That’s All” is a tall order. Not to get all Patrick Bateman, but we do consider it a perfect pop song. That said, you could have at least learned the words, Keane! Check in at 30 seconds (and again at 2:48) for the flub.
C’mon Tom, it’s easy to remember…
See, the lines all have opposites!
I could say day, you’d say night
Tell me it’s black when I know that it’s white
Anyway, he was nervous. It’s sorta cute. We would have, however, awarded points for use of Collins’ iconic phrasing (it’s pronounced “s’alwaysasame”).
Tune in to VH1 Rock Honors tonight to rate Nickelback’s take on ZZ Top’s “Sharp Dressed Man”, Gretchen Wilson w/ Alice In Chains’ attempt at Heart’s “Barracuda,” and Flavor Flav’s version of Ozzy’s “Paranoid.” (Kidding — they let QOTSA handle that.)
All the honorees perform too. Click here to watch the recently reunited Genesis play “Turn It On Again.”
Also, Keane … no keyboard solo?! And would hobo costumes be too much to ask?
Incidentally, there’s a sweet new Genesis boxed set out, and Rhino‘s having a listening party.

maybe he was drunk
or completely untalented.
probably both.
mega boring. wheres that man man post
Honestly, who doesn’t know this song off by heart from riding with their parents playing the soft rock station?
I don’t usually listen to lyrics, mostly rhythm and beat, so I didn’t mind the so called flub. I like Keane, but since when does Tom use a guitar? He looks a lot healthier now since out of rehab.
I think Phil Collins already butchered that song. Perfect poop song.
Crap! I took the title as literal, in a Celebrity Deathmatch kind of way and got all excited. Bastards have it coming.
Sadly, it was just some chubby English guy singing some awful Phil Collins tune.
As I say no one is perfect no need to cut Tom Chaplin down about his physical appearance.I find this man incredibly sexy and a great performer.I happen to love Keane and everything about them.To see them in concert you would be blown away!
These guys are down to earth guys with lots of personality!
I do take offence when people cut Tom down.I defend them because I have seen then perform and met them. They are not your typical hollywood rock stars all buffed and polished.
I prefer real opposed to perfection.
People can say all they want and have an opinion but I don’t think there has to be an attack on them personally.
I know I’m at odds with just about everyone on here…but I really liked it overall.
I would just like to point out that Genesis PICKED Keane to do their song.
Lay off Keane…they are one of only a handful of good bands out there that even resemble the 1980′s. The original was AWESOME, but listening to Phil Collins live vs Tom Chaplain is not even close. Tom’s voice is FAR superior…I know that may sound like blasphemy, but it is true if you have seen them both…I have.
Genesis was a very talented band. I had not even heard much Keane when I heard this cover. When Genesis did this song it was tired and lame. Keane breathed new life into it, I now must illegally download as much Keane as I can.
Question: Why do all the old bands feel the need to do a reunion and tour? Are they all runnig out of money or trying to relive the glory days?
Phil Collins was very talented I especially liked his role in ” Who framed Roger Rabbit?”
