The official date of this weekend’s Haunting The Chapel/BrooklynVegan Krieg/woe show was Saturday, 10/30, but we started the Mischief Night/Halloween event after midnight to make sure the East Coast black metal crews offered the first dark sounds you heard on 10/31. As mentioned, both bands own 2010 standout releases (both on Candlelight). On Sat/Sun, they also shared members: After ripping into Quietly, Undramatically with his boozy Philly cohorts (and HTC live regulars), woe main man Chris Grigg handled drums (ably) for Krieg‘s set. It was an excellent night complete with black metal pogoing and a few audience members wearing facepaint, though unfortunately, unlike the Mt. Eerie/Liturgy/Malkuth show I did last Halloween, nobody showed up dressed like a banana. No worries: Samantha Marble took photos decked-out like a self-described “child of the damned.”

there is a story over on metal sucks about whether american or european metal is better, and no one appears to have heard of ANY american black metal bands over there… upsetting that only two people have mentioned agalloch and no one has mentioned krieg or woe…among others left out of course
interesting. do you have the link to that story? would like to check it out — didn’t see it when i hopped over to metal sucks.
here’s the link: http://www.metalsucks.net/2010/11/02/i-against-i-god-forbids-doc-coyle-on-european-metal-vs-american-metal/
People seem to be preoccupied with the “prevailing trends” in metal like djent and nwoahm, instead of focusing on the bands that are releasing great music. A lot of focus on metalcore too which drove me nuts, and a lot of focus on the mainstream.
