It’s the return of Smith Westerns, the young Chicago outfit whose fuzzy, feel-good retrofitted sound came fashioned from a Gary Glitter/Marc Bolan fountainhead, here with a single from their forthcoming full-length Dye It Blonde due 1/18 on Fat Possum. This lead listen “Weekend” has the scratchy guitars, backwards glance, and female-fixation that songs like “Girl In Love” and “Be My Girl” came packing, but with a sound grander, richer, full of more west coast breeze.
