Though Pedro The Lion never grabbed these ears, David’s Fewer Moving Parts EP was one of our favorite releases last year, and, lucky him, now we track Bazan’s activities with stalkeristic fervor. (Loving, innocent stalkerism.) Daytrotter had the good sense to bring David’s cracked, aching vox and intense eyes/beard combo to their in-house studio recently, and it’s a session well worth checking. Amongst the tunes proffered (including “Bands With Managers,” “Cold Beer And Cigarettes”) are two previously unreleased tunes, our pick being “Shit Talker.” Sick of hearing friends talk smack? Play them this lullaby, but don’t feel bad; “that’s what they get for being born in the ’70s.” Refreshing and grudge free (“I won’t hold it against you…”)! Grab it at Daytrotter.

Shit Talker is on the album by The Headphones. (Bazan’s synthy side project)
Great song.
yeah. um. this is not new.
I’m excited that you’ve never heard the Headphones CD. Tonight will be a glorious day for you.
It’s DB at his lyrical best.
Yes, this is from the Headphones record, he does however have a full length coming out on Barsuk with a full band next year.
Great interview with Bazan in the Daily Iowan:

the pedro the lion catlogue is criminally underrated…
i agree. pedro the lion was probably one of the most underrated bands of the decade, and control is probably one of the decade’s most underrated albums.
I saw him live solo a couple months ago, and there were probably 20 people there, but he played for an hour. and it was probably one of the best things ever.
yeah, i was gonna correct you on the “unreleased” thing too…
if you prefer “fewer moving parts” over pedro the lion then you’ll probably dig the headphones record
david bazan IS (or was) pedro the lion. it was never a “band” in the sense of what a band is – it was bazan & a revolving cast of friends to help out with live shows and instruments on the albums. pedro the lion is/was not a band, it is/was david bazan.
what the hell?
though pedro the lion never grabbed these ears?
but you like fewer moving parts?
its the same fucking thing! its great, but hes got the same style going.
shit.
is stereogum turning into pitchfork, saying asinine things just to seem super indie.
“oh i never liked kid a.”
“i hated saves the day.”
bullshit.
in response to jake,
its definitely the same david its always been, but early pedro stuff is not the same as fewer moving parts. pop in The only reason I feel secure. the mellow drone of his early stuff has pretty much been traded in completely for the more full studio sound and a fuller vocal range. that is all say in the gums favor on this one, though. you guys dropped the ball first for missing out on all those years of pedro and second for missing that this is a headphones track. oh well… at least you dont hate him as much as pitchfork.
