As illustrated by Decibel‘s Top 40 earlier today, ’tis the season for list giving. As far as the non-metal kind go (though they did include the Dillinger Escape Plan), NME wisely included Salem‘s King Night and Zola Jesus‘s Stridulum II in their Top 10. I also appreciate the inclusion of Swans, Glasser, Perfume Genius, and Crystal Castles. Still, as it often goes with these things, there’s plenty of head scratching. Also, as a rule, just because NME thinks you’re Cool, doesn’t mean they love your record.

Yeah, no.
While there’s tons here I both agree and disagree with (the nature of lists and opinions etc), I am quite glad to see These New Puritans’ Hidden topping the list. I don’t think it’s gotten the attention it deserves, and hopefully more people will pick it up as a result.
Can’t bitch about this list cause they put These New Puritans on top.
Although I don’t agree on them being on the top position, I really think they deserve to have a position in at least one of these yearly lists (I don’t think they’ll be mentioned in many more, if at all). It seems like they were pretty much -unfairly- ignored this year. Great, courageous -if at times excessive- album.
Ugh to the Puritans
Based on this list’s high ranking, I listened to a few songs off of that album, but it was so extremely unpleasant that I had to stop,
*rant about lists*
I can’t believe some of the things that I like are not higher. In addition I am upset that some of the things I dislike are so high.
Where is the Walkmen? Are my eyes decieving me? Lisbon is better than pretty much everything on this list.
I can not believe Joanna Newsom’s “Have one on me” polled so low. ‘Have one on me’ was a hugely ambitious project and It should have easiily made the top ten.
Its about the most stunning oversight in the history of the The NME of which i was a religious reader in the eighties..
Surprisingly I’m not as annoyed by their list as much as I expected to be. I think the Brits taste in indie this year shows a lot of love for good new bands that aren’t just about hype. Robyn’s Body Talk (complete) should have made the list and not just Part 1, though.
Outside of 2-4, that top ten is unlistenable. UNLISTENABLE.
I know you accidentally forgot to add 3 to your list. Forgiven.
Thumbs down X∞
Sorry, 2-4 means 2 through4 in case I was being unclear.
Also, through should not be running into 4 like that.
I thought you were being very clear. And then I thought Comehomenow was saying you should have added 3 to your list of unlistenable albums, but that doesn’t quite make sense, so I think you’re correct–he misunderstood you and thought you considered “Teen Dream” one of the albums that was unlistenable.
Indeed, I am an idiot. Fail. Etc. I am also a ‘she’.
I agree with some choices and disagree with others.
lol
how the hell is sleigh bells above surfer blood??
because surfer blood sucks live and is slightly better recorded?
Why is Plastic Beach #66? Defiantly should be #1. Glad The Suburbs is #2 though.
My top 10 would be:
1. Beach House – Teen Dream
2. The Tallest Man on Earth – The Wild Hunt
3. How To Dress Well – Love Remains
4. Suckers – Wild Smile
5. Big Boi – Sir Lucious Left Foot The Son of Chico Dusty
6. Beach Fossils – Beach Fossils
7. Owen Pallett – Heartland
8. Hot Chip – One Life Stand
9. Caribou – Swim
10. Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Honourable mentions to everybody else that released a great album this year… :D
Kanye West
Gorillaz
Arcade Fire
Sufjan Stevens
Beach House
LCD Soundsystem
The National
Deerhunter
Janelle Monae
Flying Lotus
In no order
no Tame Impala?
right.
indeed. top 10 in my book!
Seriously, NME is crazy to not even include it. Easily my favorite album of the year.
Hidden due to low comment rating. Click here to see
If I had only one thing to complain about, it would be how high MGMT is.
Yeasayer too. Both of them had great first albums, but their sophomore efforts underwhelmed.
Yeah, those dudes should lay off the drugs.
Warpaint :: The Fool
LCD Soundsystem :: This Is Happening
Deftones :: Diamond Eyes
No Age :: Everything In Between
The National :: High Violet
Abe Vigoda :: Crush
Beach House :: Teen Dream
The Soft Pack :: The Soft Pack
Black Keys :: Brothers
Male Bonding :: Nothing Hurts
My top 10 would have been:
The National
Yeasayer
Laura Marling
Avi Buffalo
Sleigh Bells
Perfume Genius
Caribou
Beach House
Deerhunter
Gil Scott Heron
1. Tame Impala – Innerspeaker
2. Deerhunter – Halcyon Digest
3. Caribou – Swim
4. The National – High Violet
5. Beach House – Teen Dream
6. Arcade Fire – The Suburbs
7. Actress – Splazsh
8. Midlake – The Courage Of Others
9. Four Tet – There’s Love in you
10. No Age – Everything in Between
I agree with most of this list, BUT Cocorosie:Grey Oceans should DEFINITELY be on here.
hell yeah.
And hell yes to Laura Marling and First Aid Kit
I hate the term “Top 10″ or however many because it sounds like it’s bestowing an air of objectivity. So I’ll list my ten favorite, or the ten albums I enjoyed listening to the most, with the caveat that there are only so many hours in a day and I can’t listen to everything:
1) Titus Andronicus – the Monitor
2) the Morning Benders – Big Echo
3) Deerhunter – Halcyon Digest
4) the Besnard Lakes – Are the Roaring Night
5) the Walkmen – Lisbon
6) Free Energy – Stuck on Nothing
7) Miles Kurosky – the Desert of Shallow Effects
8) the Black Keys – Brothers
9) the Drums – the Drums
10) The Arcade Fire – Funeral.
There were at least 15-20 more albums that could have made my list in any other year, including a bunch that have been mentioned by others on this thread (Beach House, Avi Buffalo, LCD, Los Campesinos!, the National, Surfer Blood, Waaves, the Posies, etc.).
I don’t think you tried to do this, but the emoticon in front of the Black Keys is great. Black Keys isn’t the #8 album of the year, it’s the #coooooooool album of the year, daddy-o.

my comment about it being the suburbs was nicer than yours, so i’m giving myself a star and a pat on the back.

I actually listened to some of it today. Just a brain cramp while typing, I guess. Thanks for not being a total dick, though.
also, didn’t funeral come out a few years back? ;)
I thought he just loved Funeral that. much.
I agree with your top pick. I’m afraid Mr. Andronicus is going to get no love this year. Fortunetly when their next album comes out (though it won’t be as good) it will get lots of love and you’ll see in everyone’s review a snippet of why they loved the monitor and how they thought it was one of 2010′s best albums.
Agreed on Titus Andronicus being #1 for the year, though I believe (or at least strongly hope) that their next album will be just as good as The Monitor!
God, a year is a long time. If you had asked, without giving me the benefit of Google, whether Beach House, Vampire Weekend, Yeasayer, or MGMT released albums in 2010, I would have replied with much confidence that no, they did not, and all of those came out in 2009.
Am I getting unstuck in time? Poh-toh-wheet? As befits the endless listing of our time: so it goes.
Welcome to the era of the buzzband, Mr. Pilgrim.
I felt the same way when I saw Vampire Weekend and Beach House up there. I guess that’s the trade off with all this immediate access to new music… we hear more, but don’t always give some albums the long term love they deserve.
Gonna listen to that Beach House album right now because I haven’t in a while and because I’m super pumped to see it at #3 on one of these lists.
The weirdest is to think that Spoon released Transference this year.
NME is terrible and missed
The School – Loveless Unbeliever
The Octopus Project – Hexadecagon
Ed Harcourt – Lustre
Lindstrøm & Christabelle – Real Life Is No Cool
Holy Fuck – Latin
Allo Darlin’ – Allo Darlin’
Jamie Lidell – Compass
Hellogoodbye – Would It Kill You?
Shining – Blackjazz
Mono – Holy Ground
Dr. Dog – Shame Shame
Teengirl Fantasy – 7AM
Ninja Tune XX Vol. 1/2
Marnie Stern – Marnie Stern
Kvelertak – S/T
The Black Keys
Sleigh Bells should be higher, and Broken Bells should be on the list period. Glad to see the Drums do well though and not so sure about My Chemical Romance. NME does have a tendency to throw a less buzzed band at the top…the Horrors got it last year. I need to listen to more of these.
Man am i glad NME gave The Horrors the #1 spot last year. Pitchfork gave it a 7.8 which is a great score but it had completely passed me by for some reason. Anyhoo, wound up being my favourite album of 2009 (Fuck Buttons being a close second) and one of the few that i still enjoy just as much today. A mesmerising album. And last year was a very strong year for albums!
who are These New Puritans? Should I have heard of them?
Only if you care about truly good music.
No he asked about These New Puritans
Age of Adz 74? Ouch. Especially considering Interpol’s album was pretty much crap. I’m surprisingly alright with the top 20 though. I’ve never been in to These New Puritans though, but if you chop that one off it won’t look too far off from mine. Also, I though Gayngs album was pretty boring, and Oddblood had some great (really great!) songs, but was kind of a crappy album as a whole
and since everybody else is doing it…
1 Beach House
2 Magic Man
3 Tallest Man on Earth
4 Arcade Fire
6 The National
7 Deerhunter
8 Avey Tare
9 Coma Cinema
10 Vampire Weekend
I think Kanye is going to end up in there but I haven’t had it for long enough to decide if its just the initial awesomeness of it or if its going to last (I think it will)
Age of Adz didn’t get the critical love it deserved, IMO. Then again, I haven’t listened to it in a couple of weeks and it hasn’t been out that long, so what does that say?
and Since I blatantly forgot to do number 5, I guess thats where I subconsciously decided to put Kanye
Beach House is my #1. The rest I don’t care to place in any kind of order, because ranking anything beyond your favorite seems kind of arbitrary.
I think we might be the same person…. I completely agree with both of your comments AND I love the Venture Brothers
Yeah, i know i did post a list earlier, but completely agree. Teen Dream was amazing. Listening to it just sends shivers down my spine.
Surprisingly it’s a good list. Glad to see Puritans at the top spot.
Picking apart lists and throwing up your own top 10 is always a fun little distraction, but if I can be serious for a moment…
The new Interpol is on this list and the Black Keys and Broken Bells aren’t.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5BMQ-xpTog
Wild Nothing? Where are you!
No Tallest Man on Earth?!!? WAAAAARRRRR!!!!!
I know, wtf??
I know, right? Guess I won’t be listening to him anymore!
Also, couldn’t you have gotten a better image of the magazine cover? Amateurs.
I find it repulsive that they skipped over Titus Andronicus. Best release of the year, IMHO. Suburbs comes close, though. And I guess Spoon is too american for NME?
Ok here is mine:
1.The National: High Violet
2.Arcade Fire: The Suburbs
3.Cee Lo-Green: The Lady Killer
4.Herbie Hancock: The Imagine Project
5.Peter Gabriel: Scratch My Back
6.Ray Lamontagne: If God Willin’ and The Creek Don’t rise
7.Delta Spirit: History From Below
8. Gotan Project: Tango 3.0
9.Beach House: Teen Dream
10.The Tallest Man On Earth: The Wild Hunt
Sufjan at 74 is a joke.
1. The Age of Adz
2. The Age of Adz
3. The Age of Adz
4. The Age of Adz
5. The Age of Adz
6. The Age of Adz
7. The Age of Adz
8. The Age of Adz
9. All Delighted People
10. Contra or whatever
1) Warpaint – The Fool
2) LCD Soundsystem – This Is Happening
3) Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti – Before Today
4) Charlotte Gainsbourg – IRM
5) Foals – Total Life Forever
6) Gayngs – Relayted
7) Caribou – Swim
8) Beach House -Teen Dream
9) Deerhunter – Halycon Digest
10) New Young Pony Club – The Optimist
My List:
1)The National – HIgh Violet
2)LCD Soundsystem – This is Happening
3)Beach House – Teen Dream
4)Deerhunter – Halcyon Digest
5)Arcade Fire – The Suburbs
6)Caribou – Swim
7)Surfer Blood – Astro Coast
8)Tame Impala – Innerspeaker
9)Sleigh Bells – Treats
10)Wolf Parade – Expo 86
Tame Impala is definitively missing!
Toro y moi? Surely that should be number 1?
And while we’re here – brazos and morning benders as well
And born ruffians.
naw that new born ruffians album was a piece of shit.. soooooooooo so so so so disappointing after red, yellow and blue.
And tame impala.
Hmmmm…pull out all the bands from the UK and turn the entire list on its head and you’re just about there.
Surfer Blood is in my top 5.
Heres my list for the year:
1. Nirvana – Nevermind
2. Nirvana – Nevermind
/end joke
Some of these bands I havnt given a listen because of their name (these new puritans), but I’ll check em out at least which is what these lists are SUPPOSED to do. I’ve enjoyed though:
The soft pack
arcade fire
no age
deerhunter
best coast
wavves?(was that 09? i’m not going to google it right now)
warpaint
cymbals eat guitars
I usually spend most of my time trying to play catch up and I have a hard time enjoying electronic music so that eliminates probably half of these bands.
What about song of the year though? what would you guys pick?….
Definitely “The Suburbs – Arcade Fire” for me
Real Love by Beach House.
Honourable mentions:
Doe Deer – Crystal Castles
Book of Stories – The Drums
Killing It – The Hundred in the Hands
Cold War – Janelle Monae
Cosa Say – Original Melody
Panties to the Side – The-Dream
A More Perfect Union – Titus Andronicus
!!! – The Hammer
And none of those (except BH) are on the albums i picked! Class songs though.
Did anyone listen to FORTRESS by Miniature Tigers??? Fuck it may not have been the best album of the year but it was ten times better then half the shit on their list.
this list tells you all you need to know about nme. main grievances, plastic beach and kanye, also, love nick cave but grinderman is ridiculously high ow and four tet is so low, could go on all night really…
the two best albums are by Weekend (on SLumberland Records) and the Hot Rats (2 of the guys from Supergrass).
wilderness survival, on belay belay on is not as poppy as people say, and just because it’s not as arty as there 1st 2nd and 3rd records, I still think it’s my favorite. Also, beach house, I liked a few tracks from laura marling, arcade fire’s cliche but that record sounds pretty sweet. I didn’t even know interpol was still around.
Why is that jpg at the top so pixelated? Seriously Stereogum, get it together!
Hey Christopher — the shitty image results from a limitation of our CMS. In order for this story to show up as the main ‘Featured Story’ on our homepage it has to have an image of a minimum width. Which means sometimes we blow up magazine covers for that purpose. Lame, I know, but that’s why. Sorryz!
surfer blood, dum dum girls, big boi… too low. arcade fire possibly too high, but i loved neon bible when everyone hated it…. vampire weekend too high, don’t get me started on kanye west.
Not a bad list at all.
Except why isn’t anyone outraged that Jonsi didn’t make this list? That is hard to fathom. Jonsi, even if you don’t think he should top the list (which i think he definitely should have) should have at least made the top 75….did the creators forget him? Surely they didn’t think, “Yeah, that record was bullshit. So was The Tallest Man on Earth’s”
But in general, props to a good list.
This list FAILS for one reason and one reason alone… including Salem’s King Night on their list.
Impossible Soul by itself is better then most of these albums.
Did everyone forget that Transference by Spoon came out on January 19th or is it honestly in no one’s top 10. WTF mates?
I think for me it suffered from expectations, which were already high. Probably why New Pornographers and the Thermals didn’t make my list, even though I really like the albums.
For me personally it was partly due to the fact that they played the Aragon here in Chicago this year (which I hate) on the same night as Miles Kurosky. I saw Miles instead. If I don’t see a band play, I tend not to listen to the album as much, and Transference never really sunk in for me. I tried to pick albums that I just kept coming back to even long after I saw the band live (though I didn’t make it out to see a couple of them this year).
I didnt realize it was a 2010 release but yeah Ive enjoyed the hell out of it. I actually didnt listen to spoon before 2010 if you can believe thats possible.
wow who did Stuart Murdoch piss off at NME?! yeah ok Write About Love is the SIXTIETH best album of 2010 hahahahaha give me a fucking break, yet Sisterworld DESTROYS it! My god, idiots.
Why would anybody feel the need to stand-up for the new B&S placeholder record. I love that band, but it feels like tthis is the time for the post-Feeling Sinister down period all over again.
That said ‘Write About Love’ is a snazzy single.
have you really listened to it?? Write About Love is like…the 5th best track! it’s THAT effin’ good bro’hammad ali, for realzeez.
Not necessarily my top 10 but just records I enjoyed this year that didn’t make the list:
Brothers – The Black Keys
Butterfly House – The Coral
So Runs The World Away – Josh Ritter
Heartland – Own Pallett
Wolf Parade – Expo 86
Fields – Junip
How I Got Over – The Roots
She Was Coloured In – Solar Bear
Transference – Spoon
I’m pretty surprised about Spoon not making it to be honest – it was a great start to the year.
Heh heh, NME trying to look credible. They’ve never written about half of these bands.
so true right there.
it definitely says ‘top 50′ on the front cover of NME :D Did they just fancy some more?
While I agree with some entries (Foals, LCD Soundsystem in the top 10, inclusion of Mount Kimbie), the These New Puritans album was terrible. And I loved their first album, I was hyping them to being the new Radiohead, but they went way overboard on the new album. Much too conceptual, almost unlistenable. Are they trying to make some kind of statement?
Some albums that should at least be included: The Soft Pack, Los Campesinos!, Kid CuDi, James Blake and/or Pariah, Deftones (deal with it) and The Naked and the Famous.
What??? No Wolf Parade? No Tune Yards? No Here We Go Magic? No Ducktails? No Fang Island? Who Came up with this list? Wolf Parade deserves top 10. They put out their best album yet and most definitely the best live shows of the year.
Really, the Wolf Parade? I thought maybe we’d moved passed that crib-notes-post-Arcade Fire-Funeral Indie Rock soundalike nonsense.
Wait, are you talking about rock n roll? If so, then no, I haven’t moved past that yet.
Time to roll out my Top Album List Formula:
#1 Shocking selection of a weird record that will get people to comment on my site
#2 More mainstream indie record that was a bit better than #1 if I’m honest
#3 Big-name Indie veterans who released their best record three years ago
#4 New band that was hyped during the spring/summer
#5 Top-selling Hip-hop record to show my inclusiveness
#6 Record from a girl singer to show my inclusiveness
#7 Best record of the year, but it came out in April, so it’s not hot anymore
#8 Second-best record of the year, but it came out in January and leaked in November of last year
#9 Comeback album from a band you thought broke up six years ago
#10 Kanye West
This. I was laughing about this at work.
Is this from The Onion?
aaaaah, you just made my day.
Not a bad list.
I guess the UK hasn’t gotten wind of Sean Nicholas Savage yet. Mutual Feelings of Respect and Admiration was probably released too late for inclusion. I’d like to see ‘Spread Free Like a Butterfly’ find its way on to this years lists – considering it was probably too late for last year.
Whatever, who cares if it makes lists. If your reading this check out Sean Nicholas Savage’s myspace and tell me he isn’t the best singer-songwriter going today.
A very big
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
to this list.
Beach House should probably win, with The National in a close second. Arcade Fire album should be up there, not as good Funeral but better than Neon Bible. I forgot Caribou’s Swim came out this year….that was a good one. I would like to see Ariel Pink ranked higher than 25 on future list.
don’t get my wrong, musically ‘high violet’ is a great album, but lyrically there was just waaaay to much self-pity. completely turned me off to it after a few listens.
When do we get the Top 10 “Top Albums of 2010 Lists”?
Arcade Fire- The Suburbs
The National- High Violet
Deerhunter- Halcyon Digest
Beach House- Teen Dream
LCD Soundsystem- This Is Happening
Sleigh Bells- Treats
Tame Impala- Innerspeaker
Titus Andronicus- The Monitor
Vampire Weekend- Contra
Local Natives- Gorilla Manor
Oh hey everyone, you forgot She & Him…
Yeah, I forgot to kill them after the “I put a spell on you” incident.
2010 only had 11 months??
Any list that has My Chemical Romance on it is null and void.
And no love for Jonsi!?
Kanye and Sufjan too low.
NME is a joke but you have to recognize that These New Puritans is one of the best things in UK music today. They’re not in my list but it was a pleasant surprise to see them there. Nice record.
My list:
1.) Arcade Fire-The Suburbs
2.)The Like-Release Me
3.)Local Natives-Gorilla Manor
4.)Deerhunter-Halcyon Digest
5.)LCD Sound System-This is happening
6.)The National-High Violet
7.)Tame Impala-Inner Speaker
8.)Beach House-Teen Dream
9.)Joanna Newsom-Have one on me
10.)Vampire Weekend-Contra
I guess the dude from Titus Andronicus was right about always being a loser.
While acknowledging that lists are subjective, yada yada yada, a list of 75 albums without fitting in Gonjasufi’s “A Sufi and a Killer” SOMEWHERE is hard to accept. What a terrific record. Other than that though, no complaints–not because I don’t have any, but really, who cares?
What about Jonsi, Wild Nothing, JJ, CocoRosie?
Forget the NME list, here’s my Top 5 for your listening pleasure:
1. The Vaselines – “Sex With an X”
2. Gorillaz – “Plastic Beach”
3. Elvis Costello – “National Ransom”
4. Keith Richards – “Vintage Vinos”
5. Neil Young – “Le Noise”
I just don’t understand how the left out korns new album, Korn III: Remember Who You Are. I’ll just never understand nme i guess…

The Chemical Brothers – Further
The Orb Featuring David Gilmour – Metallic Spheres
Underworld – Barking
Warpaint – The Fool
I forgot Röyksopp – Senior. Wonderful album BTW!
“Crystal Castles – Crystal Castles” and “Interpol – Interpol” should be in the TOP 10.
The Drums and Laura Marling’ efforts are overrated IMO.
There are many, many good reasons Interpol is nowhere near this list. Including the bonus track, there are 11 reasons in all on that album.
This list is a joke without Titus Andronicus and The Walkmen.
The Monitor is my #1, and I cannot even fathom a top 25 without it this year.
Utterly shocked.
I’m upset by the lack of love for Foals and Titus Andronicus
i agree. foals’ record has been seriously overlooked, especially state-side.
Man, I totally understand that when I see these lists, I’m going to disagree with some of it. Even when SG states that there is a bit of head scratching with this list, again, I reminded myself that I will never full agree with any list. But really? My Chemical Romance put out a better album then Sufjan Stevens? I can’t agree with that. I don’t want to know anyone who would agree with that. Now Black Keys and Spoon are MIA on this list too? Well that is just plain foolish. Wow, still can’t really get my head around this list. I think they just pulled names out of a hat at some points in the list. There is no other explaination.
How come the cover says 50 but the list is 75?
Crap. Sorry, that was meant to not be a reply to anything.
Whoa. Titus Andronicus is a MAJOR omission on this list.
Don’t know anyone who didn’t fall for that album this year. No wonder everyone dicks on NME all the time.
No Spoon? I could complain more because i dont see The New Pornographers or Seabear either, but seriously, no Spoon? My Chemical Romance? kiddin me. It not all bad anyway, nice to see MGMT that high cause the second is way better than first one, pretty much nice list, except for the normal complains from personal tastes
Beach House-Teen Dream
Spoon-Transference
The Radio Dept-Clinging To A Scheme
The New Pornographers-Together
Foals-Total Life Forever
Arcade Fire-The Suburbs
Harlem-Hippies
Delorean-Subiza
Seabear-We Built a Fire
Fang Island-Fang Island
Marcus Doo & The Secret Family-The Magpie Returned The Ring
Tunng-And Then We Saw Land
Toro i Moi-Causers of This
MGMT-Congratulations
Crystal Castles-Crystal Castles
Yeasayer-Odd Blood
psst…nobody cares about YOUR top ten list…sorry (cough/snort).
I’d like to see Villagers make a year end list..
Also Menomena, Spoon, the Walkmen, Titus Andronicus, Born Ruffians, and the Morning Benders.
Not a terrible list by any means…but one that is not put in the right ranking order for sure…and to put “The Drums” and “These New Puritans” and “Foals” in the top 10 is downright smugly foolish. Don’t understand the NME love affair with the much overhyped Drums. I did discover some bands I really like from their top 10 however. Zola Jesus is amazing and deserves the exposure. Salem, minus the rapping, has some ethereal and great tracks, if not album.Gorillaz and Flying Lotus are MUCH too low on the list.
My list:
1.Janelle Monae/The Archandroid***EPIC 21rst Century post-Outkast Soul-Funk***
2. Kanye West/My Beautiful Dark and Twisted Fantasy***was a Kanye hater until I heard this***
3. The Arcade Fire/The Suburbs***Great songs, repeat listens reward greater depth and insight***
4. Flying Lotus/Cosmogramma***innovative to say the least***
5. Deerhunter/Halcyon Digest***beautiful, ethereal, passionate***
6. Gorillaz/Plastic Beach***motley of cool guests, styles, beats and imagination***
7. Surfer Blood/Astro Coast***the new Weezer, better then the current Weezer***
8. LCD Soundsystem/This is Happening***some stylish, campy, electro fun***
9. The National/High Violet***shade down from “Boxer” but holds its own***
10. Zola Jesus/ Stridulum 2***my favorite new musical discovery of the year***
worst album of the year: Weezer/Death to False Metal; thanks for disappointing again, Weezer
Wow I couldn’t disagree more.
hmmm…with what? “Death to False Metal” being worst album of the year or my top 10? I think the top 10 is pretty dang good IMHO.
trees still falling in the forest on this page. sad.

Kanye West- My Dark Twisted Fantasy

The Radio Dept- Clinging To A Scheme

I am pretty surprised Broken Bell’s didn’t make this list. They’re a great band and put out an amazing record this year. Heck, I mean they were nominated for a GRAMMY!? This deserves a rethink, if you haven’t given it a listen yet, its only 5 bucks on amazon right now.
