M. Ward’s cover of “Sadie” appears on Versions Of Joanna, a 22-track Dylan-punning compilation that also features Billy Bragg, Owen Pallett, and Ben Sollee remaking songs by Joanna Newsom. Ward’s Ward-like take doesn’t have the charm or energy of the original, but it did remind me to pull out Milk-Eyed Mender, an album that caught me off guard in 2004 and still sounds fresh. (As those who read our Top 50 Of 2010 know, Have One On Me wasn’t too shabby either.) Listen to it along with the rest of the compilation:
You can currently download the whole thing at Versions Of Joanna. Sales of the compilation benefit Oxfam America’s Pakistan Floods Relief Fund. (While we’re talking Dylan puns, there’s that book Visions Of Joanna Newsom, too.)

there are some incredible covers.
i may have to purchase the album…
Owen Pallett’s cover is just about worth the price of admission alone.
I agree, but I was disappointed they used the same version from Young Canadian Mothers. I was hoping he’d at least re-record it :(
Actually, it is an updated mix from the very rare- 500 copies only B-Side single from Young Canadian Mothers.. This is the first official digital release of this new mix Owen did exclusive for the project!
Some great ones here, but yikes is that Bridges & Balloons cover awful.
The guitar work and phrasing are a bit weak, but I love his voice.
OMG
I like this!
