Steven FlyLo Ellison recorded a session at the BBC’s Maida Vale studio with Gilles Peterson on hosting and interview duties. Stereogum Top 50 LP Cosmogramma‘s saxophonic flights and often mesmerizing jazz/beat-music fusion seem to have fueled the lineup of the live band Ellison brought with him for the set, with the instrumental outlier being a harp and the genetic link/love supreme coming via sax player and cousin Ravi Coltrane. You can hear the entire interview and session below including the new tune “Golden Axe” — a drifting, textural, voice-laced vamp-out on a fixed tonal point that the Flying Lotus Band apparently wrote in the studio — and other more familiar works.
