They’re from the wrong coast, but if ever a band were built for Josh Schwartz’s indie-rock web soap Rockville, CA, at least one of them would be Passion Pit. Watch the guys perform between a really weak storyline at thewb.com. It’s Episode 5, “The D-List.” There are live performances of two songs as well as an interview beyond the episode that’s currently live — you’ll have to click on “Performances” and “Extras” for those. You’ll also have to watch a very creepy fish sticks commercial each time. Outside of that, the guys are also set to release their first — yes, first — full-length Manners. The collection’s first single is “The Reeling,” which you can hear after the jump. We have the names of the 10 other tracks and the album art, too.

01 “Make Light”
02 “Little Secrets”
03 “Moths Wings”
04 “The Reeling”
05 “Eyes As Candles”
06 “Swimming In The Flood”
07 “Folds In Your Hands”
08 “To Kingdom Come”
09 “Sleepyhead”
10 “Let Your Love Grow Tall”
11 “Seaweed Song”

Manners is out 5/18 in the UK via Columbia and 5/19 in the US via Frenchkiss. It can be pre-ordered at Insound.

The sound of this single is exponentially bigger than anything they have done before. Bigger but blander. And too long. What I liked especially about Sleepyhead was its succinct crystal clear sound and timing. I don’t know what they are doing on this new single, but it doesn’t sound nearly as unique or fresh as Sleepyhead did. I had wondered if they would be a one hit wonder…I guess we’ll see with the whole album.

Sleepyhead was a rater succinct song, but a lot of the songs on Chunk of Change were rather lengthy but didn’t stop them from being good. I’m not blown away either by the first single, but am a fanboy and am hoping the album is as good as the EP

  3. how can 4:48 be too long for something like this? as far as i’m concerned and everyone that’s heard it with me, not long enough! this is absolutely beautiful. creative, moving and obviously on the cutting edge. he’s done it again and this confirms it. he’s legit… a truly talented, innovative songwriter. way to go chris zane, you’ve got a real wonder there! can’t wait to hear the rest of this thing. just can’t wait. keep it coming passion pit.

its solid, and thats enough for me…..i mean i doubted this band would go anywhere past “sleepyhead”, but this has proven me wrong, they are a solid band!

  5. to me it sounds like a song from a sega videogame, but i dig it.

blech, between those bad live performances and this bad first single, these guys are set to be the ‘oh no oh my’ of 2009! and sleepyhead was so good!

    • I see what you’ve done there. Start hating them BEFORE the full-blown hipster backlash starts so you can yell “I TOLD YOU SO” in all caps on the interwebs.

I’m so glad I accidently stumbled across these guys on UK radio. They’re putting out the most origianl music in years. Anyone who slates them, just isn’t getting it….
