We’ve talked a bit about the Decemberists’ anticipated upcoming album The King Is Dead, ever since Colin Meloy started playing new songs from the album back in April. Now you can listen to the whole thing via NPR, who is streaming the album starting today. The King Is Dead will be available to sample through its release date, January 18.

i absolutely love this album. picaresque was always my favorite, followed closely by crane wife. i think we have a new king. (sorry, had to.)

I don’t want to be one of those guys who gets stuck in the past with a band, but I really haven’t enjoyed anything these guys have done since The Crane Wife. This is no exception. I really want to like it, but it’s just boring to me. I’ve already heard this music.
yes, and “All arise!” it’s a bad copy of “Honky tonk woman” or “Country honk”.
