Best way to teach an old dog new tricks? Get a new dog! That’s the route of the much ballyhooed Duran Duran/Timberlake/Timbaland collab, anyway (we don’t condone puppy replacement). Far afield from the halcyon “Rio” days, DD get a typically chunky/funky throwaway Timba beat (and contractually obligated Timba vocal) on “Night Runner,” while Simon Le Bon and JT take turns out front on coo control. Sounds pretty “now,” so congrats to the Le Bon crew on their sonic facelift. But in fairness, this is Justin & Timba (Feat. Duran Duran). If that. Or maybe the crappy stream’s playing with our ears? Listen and learn at Entertainment Weekly.

    Boy, did that suck…

  2. Sometimes you can’t afford one of Timbaland’s fresh beats so you choose one from the leftovers. Sometimes the leftovers are stale… This is one of those times.

Seriously, have these two ever heard of the term “over-exposure”??

    Timberlake and Timbaland!!! BFF!!!!!

    We get it.

Duran Duran got it right way back with that “wedding album”. Ever since, they’ve chased every flitting trick in the book. This tune is laughable and, just like every horrible thing J.Tim attaches his name to, will be a massive success.

As for J.Tim and Timba, save your homophobia for some place else. Who are you to deny them their love? So what if they’re two men. They love each other and should be allowed to marry each other in any state they choose. It wasn’t their choice. They were born that way. Respect their love! Respect it!!

Duran are an excellent band, but this is just terrible. No John Taylor, Nick Rhodes, or Roger Taylor to be heard anywhere. Timba/LeBon??? Yuckzzzzz

There certainly isn’t enough Duran Duran going on in this track. It sounds like Timbaland trying to cut a Duran Duran track and not getting there without that super tight and funky rhythm section and those glossy Nick Rhodes synth layers. The hooks aren’t there either.

It’s not terrible though, but better things could have happened. I’m hoping for some good remixes.

  13. wow- duran duran rocks but this “collaboration” is sad. they are better than that! last thing we need is more uniformity in music- using the “hot” team of J & T? How many records now are they going to be on?

  14. timbasucks  |   Posted on Aug 14th, 2007

this song is terrible and does no justice to duran duran at all. Simons voice sounds like it’s been put through 100 filters and spurted out again. complete crap!

  15. yepyep  |   Posted on Aug 14th, 2007

Duran Duran does NOT need these two…

Justin and Timbo or on a plane to Overexposure Island where Beyonce is waiting….

  16. Don D  |   Posted on Aug 14th, 2007

Why is everybody talking that much about Nite Runner…it ain’t even gonna be the first single!!!
Agree on some terms when it comes to the song…but no matter how u twist this…DD will get recognized with this collaberation.
By the way; first single out, Falling Down is co written with Justin and produced by Timbaland.
This is a new era of Duran Duran and to you who talks about tricks in the book…this is simply taking notice of what’s happening out there…

This is the worst Duran Duran single ever. I don’t understand what’s happend to MR Nick Rhodes “a visionaire” with so many “arty” influences… that helped DD to have the status of a big band all over the globe… I can’t believe in this big disappointment. This is not a Duran Duran single but a Timberlake/Timbaland feat. Duran Duran… I dont’t even know if it will be a sucess. maybe not, cause it’s not a radio friendly song and it’s very boring and repetitive… A big DISASTER
    * I’m a big fan since 1981, and I think they have a very rich and important back catalogue with big classic modern songs.

have to disagree to those who don’t get this track, this has John Taylor writ large all over it. hello? does nobody hear this is a track driven entirely by his bass playing supported by rodger’s drumming and nicks synth fills? damn people – l i s t e n. while i would say this is a album track and not a single it is good for getting people talking about DD again.

Duran Duran have always changed with the times and stayed fresh. I think Madonna and Duran Duran are the true survivors of the 80’s. This song sounds OK, but I know it will probably grow on me once they start playing it on the radio.

damn, guys, i love this. hate the haters.

  22. This song is very catchy, and I like it. Listen to the DD/Timbaland song “skin Divers” it is better than this and will have you dancing. Hey didn’t dd start out as a “club” band, oh yes they did, all their stuff was for dancing, and “Nite Runner” does that, as does “Skin Traders” oh, and “Falling Down” yeah that song is frickin’ great, the new songs sound great…………..

  23. Parts of it sound alright but other parts of it make me annoyed and angry and want to punch someone in the adam’s apple… I think it’s a cool song in that aspect.

The timbaland vocal wasn’t needed for sure. I love that it was contractually required. That cracks me up.

it obviously sounds very much like DD…the chorus is so duran…if its produced by Justin Timberlake then you’d expect to here some of his stuff in it….otherwise he might as well not produce it…
