  1. Ohhh…the Pretenders. Yes, please.

  2. I hope somebody remembers that Def Leppard released “Armageddon It” which was the lowest of the hairband low. I realize that hairbands are somewhat trendy right now via nostalgia, but most people who had to live through the continuous plays of the video on MTV and the song on the radio know that this song was one of the lowest points in the history of MTV heavy rotation.

  3. Speak for yourself. I loved HYSTERIA from beginning to end as much then as I do now.

  4. Also, it seems obvious that HoF inductions are meaningless. But if Bryan Adams gets in before Sabbath, I’m going to quit listening to music.

  5. Twisted Sister should be in for the Warriors-inspired intro to “Come Out and Play” alone. Stay hungry!

  6. Skynyrd… that smell gets around you.

  7. Frankly I find Pat Benatar’s nomination more offensive than Bryan Adams (pick your poison). The HoF is great because it is such a collection of bad music and inspires such hotly contested debate. Simple Minds before Joy Division, The Buzzcocks or The Damned? Sure.

you know U2 is a lock, as well as the Pretenders and probably Pat Benatar. All well and good. But it sucks that they’ve dissed Sabbath for the past few years, and hell, Abba deserves to make it in there as well.

Grandmaster Flash, Joan Jett, and Van Halen have decent chances, I bet….

you dont have the cure on your list.

i dont know who is elgible but the cure and U2 are pretty automatic.

  10. you know…nobody ever talks about the fact that tom waits isn’t in the “hall”. now i realize he could probably not give a rat’s ass, and it took the velvet underground years…but c’mon people…the man is a genius. springsteen, the eagles, norah jones, rod stewart…and countless others have covered his songs…some badly it must be admitted…but is bob seger (sp?) really a “better” artist than waits (not to mention the good captain beefheart…maybe the hall dislikes interesting voices…that would also explain no leonard cohen)? i realize this is a rant, and the hall really is a bullshit institution, but it’d be nice to see tom get some recognition. sorry for ranting, kids. back to yr regualarly scheduled download

  11. No Waits. No Patti Smith. It’s all about who’s most commercially viable. It’s all just a joke. I WOULD, however, pay reallllly good money to see Bryan Adams and Bono fight over a microphone.

    I vote for myself!!

  13. Re: “It’s all about who’s most commercially viable” seemed to be disappearing when I first began to talk with a variety of people over the Internet about the Hall Of Fame. Back in late 2002, I believed strongly that critical pressure would cause most of the late 1970s punk bands like the Sex Pistols and Patti Smith to get in very soon, and that this trend would continue into the 1980s. [However, because his music can be so unpalatable, I knew Waits would never get in].

However, it now seems as though the judges at the Hall of Fame are more than ever concerned only with commercial viability. If you read the lists of Joe S. Harrington (“www.blastitude.com/14/pg4.htm”) and David Keenan (“www.sundayherald.com/bestalbums”) you will see what view they take about almost all commercial music beyond the advent of punk. It’s not pleasing, for sure.

  14. Well, Leonard Cohen is a similar cases to Tom Waits. Both artists might be championed heavily by some sections of the music press with the patience to get used to music which is not in any way enjoyable. However, most people do not have the patience to appreciate either of them.

[This also explains (for instance) why the Ramones were inducted on eligibility but Captain Beefheart has never got close]

HELLO PEOPLE!!!!! Get REAL!!!! LISTEN UP!!!!!

Does anyone in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame committee understand the term “give credit where credit is due”. I am Canadian and we have one hell of a great ROCK band here in Canada that is very big world wide. They have rocked the world and by the way are still at it 30 frikin years later and going strong. Ask any of todays young hard rock bands who their influences were and RUSH will come up in every conversation. RUSH should have been inducted years ago but hey some flippin idiots want The J. Geils Band instead. Wow… one big hit back in the 80′s. What the hell else have they done that has contributed to music? Come on wake up!!!!

  19. Come on, no one has mentioned Iron Maiden at all. After all the transformations of the band. They have had 3 lead singers, changed drummers, lost 2 guitarists, but still remained successful throughout that time. But now they are all back together and better than ever (Bruce Dickinson-vocals, Nicko McBrain-drummer, Steve Harris-bass, Dave Murray-guitar, Adrian Smith-guitar, and Janick Gers-guitar). These guys are the definition of a heavy metal rock band and they put on a heavy metal performance that should be the template for all heavy metal acts on stage. And at 40+ years old for all of the current members, they still remain touring machines, going out on world tours after the release of every new album. They have gotten back together in 2000 and came out with 2 unbelievable albums, Brave New World and Dance of Death. They are incredible and should be a lock for the hall. They deserve it!

Lynyrd Skynyrd, Black Sabbath, Rush, Van Halen all missing from the hall ? This was supposed to be the Rock and Roll hall of fame and instead it is the Pop hall of fame. Its surprising the group of idiots running this didn’t leave out Led Zeppelin too !

FM Rock radio really got started in the late 70′s and has been playing these four bands constantly right up until today.

    Skynyrd all the way.
