Been a lot of shots fired at Billy since he announced the “reunion” of the Pumpkins. (And just when you thought it’d died down, Trent Reznor got in on the fun.) In fairness, he’s done plenty to make himself a Target. But bullshit aside, “That’s The Way (My Love Is)” isn’t only the finest song on Zeitgeist … it’s just a fine song. And unlike the green-screensaver slop that was “Tarantula,” the clip for “That’s The Way” has a touch of tact and interstellar class. Sure, it’s got high concept written on it (Pumpkins in space, jamming on a satellite), but not in that please-look-at-me vinyl-cape-wearing way. (In fact, Billy’s dressing downright earthly in this one). The floating facial reflections, the cosmic dreaminess … it’s all right on point. Guess you can cut the shit when you know you’ve got a jam on your hands.

Not bad. I don’t think the song is the best on the album, though. I’m not sure which one is.
Well, it’s a bit busy, but the song’s not too bad. It still sounds like it should be playing on my best friend’s basement stereo in 1996. I don’t know how to feel about it. What I do miss are James and D’arcy. I know, I know, a cliche complaint. But I remember the videos for “Today,” “Rocket” and “Tonight Tonight” and I remember how it seemed like the whole band was in on the idea, they were a choesive unit, and it looked like they were having fun. This new Pumpkins, as a whole, is just way too Billy. Despite him being the major creative force in the band, there was something about the first incarnation, that foursome, that this will never, ever touch.
Incidentally, when did the Pumpkins get a fifth, female member?
I do believe “Pomp and Circumstances” is the finest song on Zeitgeist.
They have had to have a fifth member for all the synthesizer stuff, pretty much since Mellon Collie…. and I wouldn’t say this is the best song. However, much better than decent.

I knew the Smashing Pumpkins. The Smashing Pumpkins were hot. The Smashing Pumpkins were creative. The Smashing Pumpkins made some serious rock music. You my friends, are not the Smashing Pumpkins.
And yet….they will continue to play and record despite the “overwhelming” feeling that this new group is not the Smashing Pumpkins. Oh well

This was definitely my favorite track on the record as well. Amongst all the Metallica death riffing, this was a slice of Classic Pumpkins a la ‘Today’, ‘Perfect’ and ‘Thirty Three’. I want more of this.
Also, the video is kind of lame.
thats a pretty cool video. but i dont ever expect to see videos as good as their old videos- im not complaining though – its great hat they’re back. This album is about the comeback of the smashing pumpkins – not about creative new ways of music like the old stuff. and i is true the pumpkins will never be like they used to with the feeling of ‘real’ but if you listen to some of their new live B-sides such as gossamer – you will hear billy & jimmy haven’t lost touch with great music and amazing creativity.

I sincerely hope they didn’t spend more than $1000 on this video. As if the CG isn’t cheesy enough, check the keying on his striped shirt in the medium shots. Makes him look like he has skeleton arms or something. Really sub-par stuff.

look at the video in the final seconds..around 03.50. Do you not realise who the girl is ?
