The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - Belong

“Belong” is the title track from the Pains Of Being Pure At Heart’s forthcoming Flood produced/Alan Moulder mixed second album. Those guys previously brought you records by Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, My Bloody Valentine, U2, and PJ Harvey, Depeche Mode, though Flood also worked with 30 Seconds To Mars, so do what you will with the information. Here, the guitars sound bigger and the overall feel’s sturdier.

Belong is out 3/29 via Slumberland.

  1. Production is louder, but not as catchy as their best songs.

  2. Big fan of these guys, but a little disappointed in this track.

  3. Instrumentals like Smashing Pumpkins with vocals like Stuart Murdoch, strange combination but they pull it off. I’m a bit disappointed with this song but still excited for the album.

  4. Yeah, everyone here has echoed my thoughts. I will, however, give them the benefit of the doubt, even though I’m not thrilled about this song.

  5. Hooooow could you not mention that Flood produced the last Sigur Rós record (Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust) !!!

  6. definitely different for them, but I like it. it’s a good direction. much better than where they seemed headed with “higher than the stars”

  7. I’m not sure why so many indie bands make a great ep or album or two and then feel the need to get a new producer who most times does something with the music that makes you think he/ she just wanted to show that they weren’t getting paid for nothing. Why change something that works? Their first album was really good and I’m not saying that this one will be bad but why fix something that isn’t broken? I’m aware of several bands that have gotten “better production” and in the end it just sounds over produced and needlessly gaudy.

  8. Great vocals. Song’s a winner.

  9. How can anyone be disappointed in this track?!!! It’s freakin’ awesome!!! One of their best I’d say!! It completely reminds me of My Bloody Valentine and Nirvana. My Bloody Valentine-esque distortion with barley there vocals and quiet loud quiet like Nirvana/ Pixies.

  10. This is absolutely fantastic!!! Very much MBV :D Bring back the shoegaze!

  11. Not bad. Silversun Pickups do this but with a waaaaay better drummer.

  12. A fantastic second disc. Read my full review of ‘Belong’ here: http://realgonerocks.blogspot.com/2011/04/pains-of-being-pure-at-heart-belong.html
