For every Led Zep rumour we’ve posted, there’s been twenty we haven’t. But today, finally and officially, the reams of dreams of a Page/Plant/Jones/Bonham reformation have come true: The original and surviving Led men will put Jason behind the kit for the first (and only other) time since an Atlantic jam in ’88 to play just one show, at London’s O2 arena on 11/26, as part of a tribute to Atlantic records founder Ahmet Ertegun. Zeppelin was part of the Atlantic family their entire careers.

There are 22,000 seats in O2, and tickets to the show can be acquired only “by ballot” from AhmetTribute.com. They’re going for £125 (around $250). That is, before the touts get their greasy paws on ‘em. The proceeds to go Ahmet’s Education Fund, paying for college scholarships. And hey, Paolo Nutini’s playing too! So, there’s that.

  1. Chuck Klosterman’s book IV has an old interview where Plant scoffs at the idea of playing with Bonham’s kid… funny what a lil $$$ will do.

except, um, the show is a BENEFIT. so i would doubt that robert plant is getting any money. but way to go on the snark.

  3. They all played together at the R&R HOF induction ceremony in ’95, just for the record.

  4. So then why did Plant trash Bonham’s kid in that interview? Not being “snark”… just sayin… go read it.

Legendary Guitarist joined by two young musicians on National Tour.

Davy Graham, supported by Mark Pavey and John Smith

Alexis Korner, of Blues Incorporated singled Davy out and organized his
first record “3/4 AD” for Topic in 1962. The EP contained the authenticated
version of “Angi” and was what a generation of players caught between
Skiffle and R&B had been waiting for. It’s almost impossible to describe the
    effect of that one record.

In 1964, Davy was recorded live at Troubadour in Earls Court, shortly after
he had got back from Tangiers. In North Africa, he had come up with a new
tuning more compatible with the music of the oud – DADGAD. He exploited the
potential of the tuning to explore the modal characteristics of the old
Irish air; the arrangement unfolding from a slow beginning and then drawn
out and danced with, only to be put back gently and reverently in place.

This tour sees Davy’s back catalogue re-released and introduces a new album,
    entitled “Broken Biscuits” shipping imminently.

“A traveling man who had made the fabled journey down to Tangiers when the
rest of us still had our sights set on Brighton pier” JOHN RENBOURN

“He’s my absolute hero, always will be” BERT JANSCH

“Probably England’s greatest guitarist” PAUL SIMON

“I wanted to be Davy Graham.” JOHN MARTYN

“Davy was and is the Man” MARTIN CARTHY

Mark Pavey has recorded and toured with Davy Graham for the last three years.
Mark has also toured with Duck Baker and has opened for Bert Jansch, Martin Carthy, John Renbourn, Wizz Jones, and Michael Chapman. Davy has helped arrange some of Pavey’s songs and they often perform together on stage. Pavey’s set is a mixture of folk revival classics and his own work.
A new album is scheduled for release at the end of November.

“Mark Pavey may yet amount to something on the guitar.” DAVY GRAHAM

John Smith is a young guitarist and songwriter who is steadily
rising up the ranks of the British Folk scene. His blend of folk
storytelling, lap-style percussive playing and rumbling fingerstyle guitar
creates a sound that has prompted both hushed appreciation and riotous
standing ovations around the UK. He has supported the likes of John
Renbourn, John Martyn, Jools Holland and Cara Dillon.

‘Beautiful to listen to and mesmerizing to watch. John Smith deserves to be
    a national treasure.’ LIVERPOOL ECHO

‘His style involves glistening harmonics, bony fingers tapping on the body
of his instrument, the hint of an eastern drone, and the flair for the
gathering storm that made Jeff Buckley so attractive. A bit of a live
    showstopper.’ THE WORD

And I get my nuts busted for long posts? At least I stay on point (mostly) ;) !

As for Zeppelin, these sorts of things seem inevitable, don’t they? Who’s plunking money that Stevie Nicks’ false threats of non-reconvening Fleetwood Mac if Christine MacVie doesn’t also come along fade just in time for… oh, I dunno… Hilary Clinton campaign meet-ups?

  8. What the hell was that post two posts ahead of me about….yiiiikes.

DwD – I agree. The Police and The Eagles made up. And ten years from now, Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff will get over their spat and give us the ‘Summertime’ sequel the world needs.

Les Cousins, never do that again or I’ll hit you with the hammer of the gods.

I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned The Smiths if this has become an angry reunion thread.

The media’s reporting that over 20,000,000 people tried to register. Maybe (just maybe) they should just do a fucking tour before they croak.
