Mary-Kate Olsen has entered treatment for an eating disorder her publicist told USA Today today.
“She made a very courageous, precautionary decision,” said Michael Pagnotta, the twins’ longtime publicist. “Mary-Kate is taking charge in making this decision. She wants to be healthy.”

Ashley Olsen is doing fine, says Pagnotta. “Ashley has complete faith in Mary-Kate and has been very supportive of her, as have her family and friends.”

I’m 22 and I have struggled with anorexia and bulimia for 11 years, I’m 5’2″ and have been 86lbs at 22 years old and her illness is no joke. It’s not something you do for attention or plublicity. It’s living hell every day, every day you wake up consumed and obsessed with food, usually as a negative way to cope with stress and other factors in life. I’ve just started trying to get better and I can tell you this girl is in for a hell of a ride just dealing with the eating disorder let alone having to hear ignorant comments and jokes like these from people talking out of their asses (which I’m sure she will)! Eating disorders are the deadliest of all psychological illness and I wish her the best of luck.

I have always been a fan of Mary Kate and Ashley! When I first heard of this I was like, no way! Mary Kate and Ashley have always been thin, so i was like why the hell would Mary Kate want to be thinner?!?!? When I saw the recent pics of her, I was so surprised. She is way too thin. I agree with all the people who know how serious eating disorders are! Making fun of her because shes rich and has a eating disorder is.. well, rude. I am in college and I study psychology. It does not matter how much money you make, or don’t make, if you have a illness or some kind of image in your brain of how you should look, you really can’t help it! So, I was anorexic for two years. YES, it’s some pretty fucked up shit. YES, it is very serious. YES, there are some people who do it for attention. Just like there are some people who attempt suicide for the attention it delivers, I personally know people who are anorexic for the fame it presents.
Did anyone else see the press release about the twins’ father, Dave: apparently (according the the release) the parents, as well as the girls’ shrink, attempted to have the intervention before the 18th birthday occurance, so they would still have legal custody over MK. If you ask me, the publicity people probably pushed that intervention BACK, so as to make it MK’s decision. A sort of “look how strong and grown-up she is”.
I’m not denying the seriousness of the issue, but, as any good agent knows, you take lemons, and make lemonade. So MK’s got an eating disorder? Shit. Well, let’s make the best of a bad situation and turn it to our benefit.

I spent the last 8 years of my life with eating disorders and am just thankful that I haven’t had to go through it in front of the entire fucking world. I predicted several months ago that one of those girls would develop an eating disorder…since that would be a noticeable way to differentiate oneself from a twin. I think Mary-Kate and Ashley should attend seperate colleges and do seperate movies so that Mary-Kate can finally be Mary-Kate, instead of just half of a multi-million dollar franchise. VeggieChica, 5’1″ and 95 pounds is NOT normal. I’m 5’1…the healthy weight for a 5’1″ woman of average build is 110 pounds. It’s that kind of thinking that caused this disease in Mary-Kate. 95 pounds is ridiculous for a woman that tall. Maybe if you have a very tiny frame, but even so, that’s an extreme weight.
There are a multitude of biological and sociological factors that effect the development of an eating disorder. People with eating disorders can come from broken abusive homes as well as functional loving homes. Just because someone develops an eating disorder doesn’t mean that their parent’s raised ” ‘em all fucked up” as a prior writer stated, but it doesn’t mean they didn’t either. How are so many people with no true experience with an eating disorder or knowing someone with one or at least doing even some minor research have such avid opinions? There are so many assumptions and negations in this comments thread with so few of them comming from people who have anything valid to make their statements off of. I never really realized before the broad ignorance of the public on the issue of eating disorders despite it’s extreme prevelance in todays society; really it’s sad.

It is funny. . . a lot of us have grown up all our lives with these girls and they have been the eye of perfection, and suddenly that cover crashes down. I just wonder why they didn’t get her in sooner. . . I mean, it is rather easy to tell when one’s bones are showing. I am anorexic/belimic. I have been for two years. I went threw a program last year and now I just went back as out patient. Today was my first day back. Its hard but you’ll make it. Good luck!
Now I feel the urge to comment given that I am given the impression that some parties who posted feel that this is somehow a conscious act, to starve onseself for attention or self-perception related reasons. The latter may be more prevelant. I have known Anorexics, whom are not in the public eye. I gather largely that they starve themselves given their ideal perceptions of how they should be, though their perceptions are distorted and irrational. I can argue with them ad-infinitum, but they don’t see MY logic, as I do not suffer the same disorder.
Much the same as I cannot argue that this flower is blue versus green, to a person whom is red-green colorblind.
Handicaps which we can work around exist. When someone starves themselves for reasons which we cannot understand (yet alone rationalize) despite our own ignorant belief of the possible contributing causes, this may prove more than detrimental, and indeed fatal to the afflicted.
I believe that the mass populace views eating disorders as the product of mass-media and scrutiny thereof given the idolatry associated therewith. I believe that it is not dependent on this, nor is it a product of the Media presentation of what we should look like ideally (though I agree that Britney videos and such project a negative message to young Teenage females), despite which, the majority of young females will not deliberately starve themselves in order to acheive this image.
Mary Kate’s illness I believe is not derivative of media pressure. It is an illness which does not discriminate economic disposition. Wealthy or not, she is still a human being, for which I would give my life and expect nothing in return, because I am also human.

If you said you were a fan then all of a sudden this news comes out then you say your not a fan anymore. Believe this you were never a fan to begin with. Your suppose to be devoted to that person and believe in them and hope for the best that they get well. People out there in the world should stop being negative and pray for Mary-Kate to get well. She needs her fans to help her pull through this stage that she is going hrough.

Yeah I just want to say to everyone out there making crule and rude comments to shut the fuck up, dont even bother posting here anymore if you dont understand the situation or know what this disorder does and how it works then just LEAVE and stop posting casue personaliy I dont and im sure many others are SICK AND TIRED of reading them its just not called for. I am 22 and anorexic I understand personaliy what a living hell it is. Some people start to do it on purpose but then after awhile YOU DO LOSE ALL CONTROL but mainly it starts with a diet then you find yourself at her weight, shes not starving herself on purpose the whole fucked up part is the longer your in it the more you grow to LOVE IT and hate it at the same time. Its TERRIFING to picture your life with out it it comsumes your every waken moment, its almost as you feel thats all you have, im in control, and shortly after your out of control but still think you are in control or cant belive that you are out of control so you have yoru self convinced that you are fine. ALso just becuase there rich and famous has nothing to do with mk falling into this disorder she could have not been famous or rich and still be going threw what shes gonig threw now, the only thing is WE WOULD NOT KNOW ABOUT IT. and i mean its really none of our bussniess unless they want us to know about it. I mean I love to hear that shes donig great and ive been a fan my whole life but they are both humans and have other lives outside of showbiz and PEOPLE LIKE DONT GET THAT, there not plubic eye with there whole lives (unless thats what they want, obvoiusly they dont) so yeah just everyone who has nothing nice to say shut up or go do some research on what shes acutally going threw and on how it works! damn

It’s hell to wake up in the middle of nowhere because you fainted from not eating. It’s hell to eat til you feel sick and then throw up a million times. And it gets under my skin when people have no idea what they’re talking about. When you you have unrealistic goals (I had a goal weight of 25 pounds and my role model was “the 58 pound woman” in 7th grade) you are too obsessed to think about anything else. Eating disorders are nothing you ever REALLY get over. You will always think about your weight and what you had done to yourself. Mary-Kate should be proud that she helped herself. I didn’t stop until I was caught just recently (late February).

1) Mary-Kate and Ashley r both humas just like us so they have there problems too.
2) i dont really like Mary kate and Ashely because they dont have a normal personality they r ssoooo fake they r what people want them to be soo i dont really like that but i still feel sory for Mary-Kate.
3)i wish to be a singer but i will wait till i am 18 to try to be famous because i prefer to have a nice childhood and then do what i like.I think Mary-Kate and Ashley should have had that oportunite too.

i do not even know why i am on this website, but about three quarters of all the writers should consider getting off the computer and learning how to write, or getting off the computer to check on their own lives instead of blabbing about someone you do not know. i am seriously worried to have kids if this is how teenagers are thinking these days. anorexia is not a way to get skinny, and anorexics do not publicize their disorders through topic discussions online, thismakes me think that all of you who wrote you were anorexic are trying to attention any way possible. why do any of you even care so much about what people think about mary-kate olsen? you do not know her, she does not know you, or even care what you have to say. every teenager has a hard time adjusting to knew life changes, but come on. there are children around the world and in your own neighborhoods that have problems way worse than you could imagine, they eat!!! anorexic people are those that just cannot be strong enough for themselves.it is sad really.

Eating disorders are a very serious issue. I personally have dealt with one, and believe me, it was hell. If it weren’t for the love of the Lord, my awesome family, and friends, I would have never goteen better. I am now very healthy, and no where near being extremely thin, or even thin. I run a lot and enjoy my life!
