Poor 50 Cent … Kanye’s on everybody’s minds and iPods these days: And when we say everybody, we also mean emo whipping boy Jared Leto. Recently, 30 Seconds To Mars got all Pink Floyd-y on Jo Whiley for a breathy, alt-snore take on “Stronger.” Maybe it’s not all that silly in theory, but you only need to get to Leto singing “you could be my black Kate Moss tonight” before eyes start rolling into your head. Take a listen at MySpace and make sure to have your hankies ready for the finale.

RELATED: Kanye took on The Office‘s Rainn Wilson in a name-that-lyric showdown at the Emmys last night. Vid of the 50 Cent/MTV in-joking bit after the jump, best line coming from moderator Wayne Brady, after West ended “Stronger” with “That’s how long I’ve been on YOU”: “The last line of the song, sadly, is ‘that’s how long I’ve been on YA’ … You picked a bad time to speak properly.”

The hell.
I think 30 Second To Mars’ version is awful. Conversely, the Kanye original is fantastic. Get at me Jared Leto fan club.
I think this is a brilliant cover. I never heard the original before 30STM covered the song and to quote Jo Wiley’s words “that was amazing, absolutely amazing, oh my god”. Whether you like or dislike the song because of who sang it – if you really listen to the emotion, power and rythm of the song it is totally convincing as a new and improved version of either the Kanye or Daft Punk song. For me, it simply nails it.
I just read through this whole talkback. I have no idea what to say. I’m not really one to put down other bands, to each his or her own. HOWEVER, I have to say this. Actually, I feel like it is my duty: Really? Has Stereogum really degenerated to the point where people are actually finding merits in a 30 Seconds to Mars cover. People actually saying Kanye has no emotion during “Stronger?” Man, this place has lost its soul. No, not immortal soul, funk soul. That cover was Wonder to Kanye’s dense rye loaf.
Jesus, there should be some sort of internet tool that prevents teenage sycophants from running up a coment list this annoying and pointless. You like it, i get it, just please spare me that seventeenth “omg!”. And when you’re done go back to makeoutcloub or wherever you folks bubble up from under.

ok “makeoutcloub” at least most of us sycophants can spell.
Yes EricaLynn, because having a simple typing error in one’s comment automatically discredits a person’s opinion and therefore you can feel superior.
If you want to be really picky about spelling and grammar, technically you should have capitalized that “ok”.

no thats not what i said i said you need to learn to spell i never said anything about superiority or your opinion relating to this topic, actually you never gave an opinion you just commented on how we “sycophants” over exaggerate our opinions and if you want to talk about annoying and pointless comments what is this?

it has nothing to do with the cover at all
wow. What a bunch of assholes.
(love the song)
Ok, Seriously, not many Kanye West fans would support this opinion but I think the 30 Seconds to Mars’ cover is awesome. It’s well deep and quite good change of lyrics on some lines lol.
Well, I guess what I’m saying is that I prefer their version rather than Kanye’s original.
(:
The cover blew me away. Loved it. 30 Seconds to Mars is amazing- it’s a shame that people can’t see past old misconceptions! I’m not a fan of the group but I am a fan of MUSIC & this band is no flash in the pan. The core of the band has been together long time & have gained critics approval not to mention a HUGE fanbase! Stereogum. Is. Lame. To all the fans of Jared Leto, good music or simple decency, thanks for the support but why bother? The people who write these things, this one in particular, are evil little trolls who have no dreams left. They live off of the misery of humanity. Who cares what the singer looks likes, who he dates or how he treats people like YOU? I’m adding to the problem but I saw this & had to write. Focus on the music not the image put out by a jealous little man with a keyboard. If it’s not for you, turn it off. Peace
30 seconds to mars rocks and that cover, i believe, was beautiful!
I’ve never given Kanye West’s original any time or for any of his music, however.
