Gang Gang Dance - Eye Contact

The excellent 11-minute “Glass Jar” sets the stage for longtime New York worldbeat experimentalists Gang Gang Dance’s Eye Contact. A decade later, it may very well be their strongest collection to date. Listen:

Eye Contact is out 5/9 in the UK and 5/10 in the US via 4AD. Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor lends his vocals to another winner “Romance Layers.” If you’re in NYC tomorrow (3/3), they’re playing a “decadent” art/music show at Angel Orensanz. Info on that at Artists Wanted. Next month they’re taking it on the road:

04/09 – London, England @ Village Underground (Dazed Live)
05/11 – Manchester, England @ Ruby Lounge
05/12 – Brighton, England @ Pavillion Theatre
05/13-15 Minehead, England (All Tomorrow’s Parties)
05/16 – London, England @ XOYO

  1. oh cmon, there HAS to be others…

so a shitty, shitty Strokes song gets a zillion comments, and Gang Gang only gets one??
listen to this, people! its great

  2. @derek: it has been done.
@btr: maybe after people hear the rest of this record new gang gang posts will get the same stroke of traction. that is probably wishful commenting, but that is how it should be, anyway.

    • Sadly that likely won’t happen — they’ve been releasing great records for the better part of a decade. Though would be excellent if the frequency shifted…

    • Cool!

And yes, on a more positive note: This is excellent, epic song. “Saint Dymphna” was a great record, and if this song’s any indication, “Eye Contact” will be of similar quality.

  3. I’m probably alone on this, but the latter part of this song sounds like I’m falling into a battle with Jenova. And in my book, anything that reminds me of Final Fantasy 7 is a good thing.

Gang Gang should consider doing music for video games.

  4. I’m really looking forward to this album now. I cannot stop listening to this song. I recently fell back into love with Saint Dymphna and after 3 years I can say that I love it/ appreciate it more now than ever. This is already a great year for music.

  5. And now back the album.

It is not my intension to be cruel, but I hope that GGD’s friends have the courage to provide some feedback about their songs. I don’t want to laugh listening to an album unless I’ve got David Cross on. I know that the band members are gifted players, but this is a Cirque du Soleil soundtrack.
