Ben Gibbard played two new songs Sunday at San Francisco’s Noise Pop Festival. The piano-manned “Codes And Keys” will appear on DCFC’s new album; “When The Sun Goes Down On Your Street” is Ben’s solo contribution to the forthcoming Arthur 2.0 soundtrack. When Nick Harmer spoke to Cole about the forthcoming Codes And Keys, he mentioned less guitars/more Eno, so maybe expect the title track to sound different down the road.

It’s interesting. I really like “When the sun goes down on your street.”
The melody of “Codes and Keys” sound like the vocal melody of that Cat Power song from a few years back? On “The Greatest” album, I believe? Or someone who sounds like her?
For real. Almost identical. I was expecting to hear her start singing.
Totally. I couldn’t get Cat Power out of my head the entire time. but maybe that’s not a bad thing
I thought the same…
“When the sun goes down…” sounds nice. Thoughtful and restrained, kinda in the vein of “I will follow you into the dark”. I like this side of DCFC more than their arena-rock aspirations.

Ben confirmed on his twitter that “When the sun goes down…” isn’t a DCFC song, it’s a solo song for the upcoming Arthur soundtrack.
i realize there’s an avalanche of big-profile releases coming out in the next few months that you guys desperately need to cling to, but would it hurt for some low anthem coverage? maybe mention that the new wye oak record is a mere 6 days away from release?
“Codes and Keys” is definitely my favorite of the two.
i cant decide which is better between the two, but when the sun goes down definately has a refreshing sound to it which i appreciate.
who said there’s a decision to make? just appreciate the music that sounds appreciable to you! gibbard’s voice really has matured over the span of their last few albums, which has been interesting to follow.
C&K reminds me a lot of Plans, which I thought was great. +1
good,thank you admin lifetime fitness
I really dig it. I kinda has the eeriness of Narrow Stairs along with the melody of Plans.
I swear this band used to have a set of testicles… what happened? Where did we go wrong?
I like it…but there’s something missing. Check out my full take on it here: http://myksmusicalmusings.wordpress.com/2011/05/31/death-cab-for-cuties-new-album-2011/
