(New York, June 29, 2004) ? Star magazine reveals that Mary-Kate Olsen? who along with twin sister Ashley, form a multi-millionaire power duo?is being treated for a cocaine addiction in an exclusive facility in Utah.
Mary-Kate is currently residing at the exclusive Cirque Lodge in Utah, which is known for its scenic mountain views and a new-age, intensive-therapy approach to treating drug addiction. She was checked in by her father Dave Olsen on June 11, and spent her 18th birthday there by herself on June 13.
The recommended 30-day program costs $29,850, and patients are free to come and go as they please, if their counselor agrees to give them a pass.
The facility?s website says it treats eating disorders in addition to drug and alcohol addictions. As it?s been widely reported, Mary-Kate is also battling anorexia.
In between yoga classes, Ashley told reporters that her twin sis is “hanging in there.”

Why is anyone surprised that someone that rich is using coke. It is quite common for people of that stature. Which is not to say it is acceptable. People like MK do not grow up with the everyday pressures that most of us grow accustom to; MK and those like her have different pressures that we cannot pretend to understand. In answer to the question, I think it is a natural human emotion to rejoice when “the privileged,” particularly those who are held up as”role models,” are knocked off their pedestals. When they fail, it makes our own mistakes seem insignificant. Lashing out in a post to the forum is a way of expressing these emotions.

Yes, I suppose it does make me feel better to know that although I have made a plethora of mistakes in my life, at least it has never been so publicly chronicled. I do have some sympathy though because I live in Japan as an English teacher and am stared at and talked about, a good bit. My high school students think I’m Barbie because of my strawberry blond hair and blue eyes and even snap pics with their ever-present cellphones. Japanese guys expect me to put out because Americans have a certain reputation and often times, I wish people would just leave me alone and treat me normally. If it wasn’t for the pay, I would leave.
