“Once in a while I do something I know people are going to think is really cool. Like when I started running outside instead of on a treadmill. Or when I translate Latin for people off of monuments or coins or something. Going to The Arcade Fire at the Hollywood Bowl was one of these things.”
The LCD Soundsystem/Arcade Fire double-bill that’s acted as a Pavlovian drool-trigger for bloggers and indie geeks nationwide has pull even with the cream of Hollywood’s comic writer crop, who in turn rave about said show on their, well, blogs. But just ’cause Mindy Kaling (aka Kelly Kapoor on The Office) hit the LCD/AF Hollywood Bowl gig and blogged it up, don’t think she’s morphing into a hipster…
“I’m not changing, you guys. I’m still same old mainstream Mindy with really bad, top 40 taste in music. Wait, not EVEN top 40. I’m like top 15. So don’t be worried I’m going to sell out and start wearing like, white skinny jeans and high tops or whatever,” she writes.
Mindy was first introduced to Arcade Fire a year ago, by her friend “Silver Lake-Spaceland-Black Coffee-Vintage Tshirt Ben.” And though she’s “not into lyrical lyrics” and appreciates “more straightforward lyrics” (an example of what’s more her speed: Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable”), she found Funeral “fucking transporting.”
In the end, though, there isn’t so much on the Fire show itself (other than running into “every single acquaintance, friend, co-worker, foe, or guy I’ve ever dated or had a crush on … at this concert”), although there is a confession of love for LCD Murphy:
LCD Soundsystem was kind of the best opening band ever. Like, too good, in a way. I think I have a crush on James Murphy, the sexy voiced lead singer. He dressed in what looked like a Polo button down and dockers, and looked the Republicanniest of any person at the show, but his voice is like liquid male sex or something.

Ha ha ha….I was there as well (only in the Terrace Boxes and not the awesome Garden Boxes), and I second everything she said about James Murphy. LCD Soundsystem may even have been better than AF. I think that all comes down to which band you prefer, but yes, he did dress like a Republican, yes, his voice is like liquid sex, and also, he may be the funniest American dance/punk impresario ever.
Awesome
ha ha! Too funny! Yeah, James Murphy is pretty amazing.
I just saw Arcade Fire & LCD Soundsystem in Kansas City and wow it was an absolutley amazing concert. Everything was electric – the bands, the music, the crowd. I’d never seen either band live and I was just blown away. I’m so glad I was able to go.
There’s James doing his thing.
i was in a terrace box and rainn wilson was in the box in front of us dancing around the whole night.
No celeb sitings, sadly, but I’ll second and third everything about LCD. They sounded huge and intimate at once.
AF, though? Think the Bowl might’ve done a poor mix? Anyone else notice? Kinda muddled and mid range-y.
i saw jake gyllenhall, bijou phillips, and i think one of the cavemen from that ABC show, but i’m not sure. maybe it was just a guy with a really heavy beard. arcade fire had a meh setlist, but i couldn’t tell if the sound was really bad, because i was in the pool circle and the acoustics don’t work like that. lcd was really good though.
“The LCD Soundsystem/Arcade Fire double-bill”
“the LCD/AF Hollywood Bowl gig”

AF get top billing, not LCD. Hell, AF’s Web site’s URL is included, but not LCD’s, so it doesn’t seem right to even call it a double-bill. Get your facts straight, Stereodummies.
Thanks for bragging, Pearl.
Truth be told, the bill really should have been “LCD Soundsystem with special guests Arcade Fire”. But, I’ll play it as it lays.
