Bill Callahan Apocalypse

“Baby’s Breath” is the first taste from Bill Callahan’s upcoming album Apocalypse. The first sound you hear is a quick uptake of breath. The next several minutes are Callahan’s beautifully rich voice up close. The tempo speeds up and slows underneath his vocals, while he picks out a hypnotic, sparse guitar melody. I could hear “Baby’s Breath” soundtracking some modern cowboy film, it’s so dry and evocative. Listen:

Apocalypse is out 4/19 via Drag City.

  1. Awesome lyrics, as always. I love the tempo changes. Alternative title: “Barnyard Sodomy”

  2. Really excited for this album…Bill Callahan is just awesome.

  3. Ah, god, that voice can soothe even the worst of times. Help us, Bill Callahan, help us get through this surprise cold snap at the end of March.

  4. That was a beautiful song. The lyrics are poetic and music itself is a perfect fit.
