Between their reworkings for PB&J, Polly Scattergood, and Little Boots, NYC duo the Golden Filter have offered a pleasant reminder that not all remixes have to be inconsequential publicity vehicles. This pass at Empire Of The Sun’s “We Are The People” completes the set before the Filter focus on their own stuff. If you’ve been keeping up you know the feel of their signature, galloping bass pulse, so look out for that around 1:40, which happens to be the point at which it becomes a jam.

In other news, Empire Of The Sun have jacked up the MGMT/future nativity of “We Are The People”’s video to create “a digital first for the music industry, incorporating tracking pixels working as touch points or hot spots to guide users to free downloads, bespoke film content and an exclusive competition.” You “unlock” bonus goodies by clicking on visible and hidden (i.e. revealed with mouse-over) orbs for giveaways and behind-the-scenes footage. The orbs open new tabs/windows in your browser, so know that before you start playing with Empire’s balls at this link.

But but but but… it all sounds the same. Is it just me or does Solid Gold (their own single), their remix of Cut/Copy and this not all just sound exactly the same? There’s a big difference between having a “signature”-thing and then just not bothering to use different synth sounds.

Love Solid Gold, but this is beginning to sound like laziness or lack of synthesizers…

    • yea dude. agreed. solid gold is super hot. and the cut copy remix was hot too (although, begs the question, why even bother remixing cut copy since it’s already stellar?). then you realize, they just keep using the exact same repeating synth. are they working on an album or just remixes?

  2. could we get some more synths on this? Anyone? Anyone? Casio?
