According to Daniel Lanois, No Line On The Horizon standout “Magnificient” was “born in Fez,” Morocco and features Moroccan percussionists. And when you have the budget to say things like “our song was born in Fez,” you have the budget to film your video in Fez. Director Alex Courtes, the visionary behind the perfect (shit)storm that was “Get On Your Boots,” plays it relatively tastefully here, filming the band in a Moroccan courtyard while sheets float all over the city American Beauty style. Please note the band is standing on Moroccan rugs, because in case you were wondering they filmed in Morocco.
That came via Yahoo!, who should run for President of categorizing videos. U2′s No Line On The Horizon is out. “Magnificent” has a will.i.am remix due soon, so get psyched.

Not magnificent at all.
typical elitist snob comment
What is pathetic is the number of people who live to post anti -U2 comments solely because it makes their bane existence meaningful…get a life
Dude, it’s just because U2 sucks ass now. Really, this song is terrible, and so is the video. Doesn’t take a snob with no life to point that out.
You obviously have no musical taste at all.
This song is an embarrassment.
It’s a total piece of crap.
U2 are a bunch dick heads.
Farmer Ted
Bono is the Martin Luther King Jr. of bad songwriting.
I don’t think that they’re in my network.
I have suffered the existence of these pompous fuckwads for what seems like centuries. And I really wish they would quit bothering the world with their shitty ditties. Thank you for letting me share.
I hope you rot in hell with nothing but them to listen to,you fucking indie snob
Yahoo forgot some essential categories! : Stale-rock, Self-indulgent rock, Unmagnificent-rock, Soccer-mom-music, Dinosaurs-with-guitars, Bono-is-an-old-hack-rock, Music-that-will-drive-you-to-tears-because-it-is-so-bad-and-anticlimactic-rock, Balls.
Yeah? Please make me laugh – who’s better?
OH! and Music-to-listen-to-while-you-are-wearing-stupid-glasses.
What did you people expect when you clicked a link that said “new U2 video”? I actually really love this song, cheesy as it may be. Now I know how Coldplay fans must feel.
You really don’t get it, do you?
What, are you saying those other comments are some sort of irony or sarcasm? If they are they need to be a hell of a lot funnier.
i think the most disturbing thing is that this band is made out of money and the CGI with the sheets is SO BAD. like, 90′s bad.
The sheets aren’t CG. Look again.
Tonight on LOST…….the smoke monster’s brother “the sheet monster” attacks Morocco.
Shut up already, just because u don’t understand real music… go listen to some steve aoki or tiesto and be done with it
As a U2 fan, I’ve learned to accept the fact that their best work is probably behind them. But every once in a while, they pull one out again that reminds you of what made them great. This is easily the best song on the album, and I think can stand alongside the other great songs in their extensive catalog. Classic riff from the Edge on this song.
@ jon,
Ironically, the 90′s were the last time anyone had a decent budget, so suggesting something in a music video looks “90′s” is kind of a compliment.
great song, underwhelming video. Discotheque was better than this
I would really like it if this blog went 1 f#%king week without posting something about Bono or U2!
Why is U2 on Stereogum? They are irrelevant.
If I was to take a guess why u2 is still being covered by stereogum/pitchfork it is that u2 is one of the only acts that started in college radio almost 30 years ago that continues to release new material. They also tour that new material rather than having broken up, or just releasing greatest hits albums.
It’s a hard concept to grasp for some people here, BUT before the tubes of the internets were all hooked up some of us listened to college radio. And u2 was on college radio. College radio spawned a whole series of new media including some programs on mtv, magazines etc. These magazines have since spawned into sites like stereogum and pitchfork. Some of the staffers I imagine might actually be older than 20, so they probably remember the day an album like the Joshua Tree, or god forbid Achtung Baby came out. Those albums made the careers of a lot of musicians possible, some of which the detractors probably like. The new material NLOTH love it or hate it, is just that new material. The indier than thou u2 slamming will probably continue one way or the other.
The Fred Falke mix of this track somehow makes the whole thing work. U2 should try their hand at writing slick, epic disco… more so then they sort of already are.
And really? Will.I.Am? Is that necessary?
it sounds like it should be in a mobile phone advert
The video is awful.
The song is fantastic.
I guarantee you my entire indie record collection that not a single person who bashed U2 up above has ever heard a U2 album from beginning to end – much less several of them.
The new album is above average. Its quality work from a band that has NO business continuing to make good music 30 years into their careers. Where are Aerosmith, AC/DC, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, etc etc etc THIRTY years into their careers? Not making albums as good as this, thats for sure.
yawn, yawn to the bandwagon of Bono haters who spout a load of unwarranted drivel about U2 . As Jim said, how pathetic!. Magnificent is a great song ,the video is ok, and their recent album imo is better than their last and alot better than most of the crap that is around at the moment. U2 have produced great music in the past and have proven they are still a good band today. Let’s see who’s still around in 20/30 years from now, I doubt any, or very few of today’ s bands!!
I personally miss the old Bono (with the higher vocal range) but on occasion this band still surprises me. You can like or dislike the most recent faire from this band but you’re out of line to bag on them entirely. The span of their careers and the body of work they have delivered speaks for itself.
Magnificent is truly Magnificent!! U2 doing what they do best. A resounding 10 out of 10!
In did it’s magnificent! Are millions and millions mistaken? This is a great band!
